Hi Guys,
I am writing a short review of my week stay in the Rila Hotel from 6-13th March. The tital of this message was just to catch your eye and make you aware of what happened to us while we were away. Please please dont be put off by what I have to say about Borovets, it was one of the best holidays that I have been on.
So here goes. On the Friday that we were leaving, myself, my girlfriend and my brother were on our way back from Franko's (Brillient place to go by the way) where we decided to stop at the Kabab stall/hut for something to eat before we went to bed for a few hours before our early flight. While quing, i looked over my shoulder and saw a Bulgarian man thowing a punch stright for my face. I ducked just in time, however my girlfirend (who is only 5ft4 and weights 9 stone) was stood directly behind me. She caught the punch in her face and it cut her lip and gave her quite a bruise to her cheek.
I confonted the man to which we then decided to have ANOTHER go at me. we were fighting when 3 or 4 other Bulgarian men emerged and strated to throw me around. My brother intecepted and got a kick in the face for his troubles. The bulgarians then ran off and we were left shaken. Our rep (Millie I think she wa called from Neilson) was just walking into reception. She saw the state of us and started filling out paper work.
She was under the impression that as we had not upset anybody during the whole night, and that we were 3 slightly drunk English people with about 20 2levs wrapped up (which probably looked like alot of money) and a camera, that we were an easy target for theifs. Because we put up a fight, they decided to leave.
But enough about that.... I just wanted to make a few people aware. THIS COULD HAPPEN ANYWHERE!! England, Spain, Italy, Canada ANYWHERE!
As for the Rila Hotel, absolutly fantastic. Firest impressions was a clean, well looked after hotel. The rooms were spacious and the little balcony is a nice touch. The food was good. I loved the traditional dishes and there was something for everybody.
Now onto the skking.... think we may have had the best conditions of the season. It snowed nearly every day that we were out there. We took the 3 day ski hire and tuition from Borosports. Found that It helped me and my dad, but my girlfriend and sister didnt. Think it was because of the way the insturctor was. They said he came across annoyed that he had to explain himself a couple of times but I thought he was a really good instructor.
Now onto places to go when you want a good night. We LOVED Mumma Mias. Zac was the man to see. He has applied to come and stay in the UK twice. He wanted to Stay in Devon where we are from. He always gave us a free shot and has the best sence of humour. Titanic was a really good lught too. Although small, it was one of the best atmosphere's. Had a couple of sing songs in Salt and Peppers, thats a must.
All I can say is that Borovets was a really really good holiday. I would definetly go back.
but really sorry to hear about your bad experience, i have been to Bulgaria several times (around 13) and have never witness any trouble in the ski resorts. so sorry and i hope that u and family r keeping well
How did you know they were Bulgarian ???
I witnessed something similar two seasons ago, a group of English lads had been thrown out of the `Buzz' after taking on the bouncers, we were queuing at the same kebab place, these lads then decided to throw abuse at the same doormen deciding that they had not had enough. The doormen simply smiled as these lads hurled abuse at them, the sort of international language that all nations can understand. Eventually they gave up and stood in our line, ...

The doormen simply smiled as these lads hurled abuse at them, the sort of international language that all nations can understand. Eventually they gave up and stood in our line, giving us the full story of how they took on these blokes, one only stopping to relieve himself on the side of the kebab kiosk... These guys were all for inciting a riot, getting a load of blokes together to come back and attack the club, i mentioned that if they were considering it, they should arm themselves, because they were very likely to get shot if they tried... that tempered the mood, and they staggered off into the night...
Welcome to Borovets eh ??
