Hello everyone

Me and two mates have just returned from a week in Borovets and would like to say what an excellent time we have had.

We skied every day and ate out everynight, with a few drinks along the way.Well ok more than just a few.

We had an excellent week in ski school with Bobbi, who is a really cool guy.

I would like to thank Bobbi for making it an excellent week. He always seemed to be one step ahead of the other ski schools and we had the slopes to ourselves on a number of ocassions. Once other schools cottoned on the slopes filled up and we moved on to new ones before they again followed.

Thanks again Bobbi, you are a star.

Another point I would like to add is about the food. We stayed in a self catering apartment so are unable to comment about hotel food (which i have heard is bad) but whenever we ate out the food was excellent.

Bobbi took us to decent places during the day (try the Shopka Salad, with or without Rakia) and at night we ate at the Titianic (pizzas excellent), Salt and Pepper, Mamma Citas (mexican), Mamma Pappas (steak was excellent), Black Tiger (cant remember the local dish I had but it was tasty). All the food we had was really good.

We went on the Bulgarian night and had a really good laugh sampling the local food and of course Rakia. Its amazing how you get to like this drink after a few. Thanks to Roland for making this a memorable night.

I have read some negative reviews from people on this forum but I can say that i really enjoyed the place. Maybe I got lucky with the people that i met but I would like to thank them all, You know who you are.

Hopefully is all you people going there soon get the snow you will enjoy yourself as much as we did.

Keep an eye on Kas's posts as she is your eyes out there. Thanks again Kas, really nice to meet you and hope the wedding goes well.

Hello Paul,
hello everyone,

Thank you once again here on the forum as we had our most impressive week in Boro (not only concerning the Rakia we had).
What you had at Black Tiger was "Pileshko Kavarma".
And thank you for your recommendation to have french fries with vinegar. But I guess I will have a bottle of Rakia in advance Wink.
Hope to see you next year on the slopes and then:
nu saits, pogodij - that is Russian and means: be aware!

Enjoy the russian (soviet) comic.
Wish you all the best, and think about adoption.
Michaela and Roland

Hi to Paul, Roland & Michalea, Bobbi & Kas, Scott, plus, Jerry & Mitch and anyone else we met in Titanic / Salt & Pepper on Tuesday night's BulgariaSki meet up.

Charlie and I had an awesome week with brilliant snow conditions (finally!) and it was really good to meet up and put some names to faces. In particular Kas, who is an absolute star for all the frank and honest updates and Roland for just being himself (anyone meeting Roland will know what I mean).

My third trip to Boro and really looking forward to the next, (probably later in the year though).

Cheers and good luck to all those going out shortly

Danny

Hello Roland

I think I may be getting a bit old to be adopted but thanks for the offer.

Check the photos on the Hunters website. We are famous or should I say infamous.

Missing you all.

Middle finger back at you. Booze

HIYA PAUL, BOBBI IS A FANTASTIC INSTRUCTOR, HE TAUGHT ME TO SKI 3YEARS AGO, SAW HIM AGAIN THIS YEAR ANS YES HE REMEMBERD ME, HE CAME AND HAD A DRINK WITH US AND ALSO OFFERED TO TAKE ME DOWN A FEW REDS, NO CHARGE. I THINK I WILL BE BOOKING HIM FOR THE DAY NEXT YEAR, HE GAVE ME HIS EMAIL AND NUMBER. GLAD YOU ENJOYED BORO, WE LOVE IT AND WILL DEFINATLY BE RETURNING NEXT YEAR (4TH TIME). IF YOU DID WANT TO STAY HALF BOARD, I CAN DEFINATLY RECOMMEND THE IGLIKA PALACE, THE FOOD THERE WAS EXCELLENT, BUT BOOK A SUPERIOR ROOM WITH A BATH, THESE ARE VERY SPACIOUS !!

Guys what were the snow conditions like? I really want to book, but I'm scared it'll all be ice. Are the green runs open?

Hi All,

We got back from Boro on sat 6th Feb. All in all we had a fabulous time. My wifes first time, and she has learnt to ski, along with our 8 year old girl who was a natural! The 5 year old lad has a little way to go, but he's getting there!! They all enjoyed it and thats the main thing.

We booked with Inghams, and put our kids in Snow Club. This was based in the hotel Mourra. It was brilliant. There were 3 carers, Bennie, Eve, and Sonia who were just great. The kids used to get 3hrs ski tuition a day, and also do other stuff like tobogganing, watching DVDs, face painting and so on. Obviously it was outside half term, but there were only a max of 5 kids there (including my two) all week!!! So, happy kids - happy mum - happy dad!

As for the skiing, the conditions were pretty good. We had a good dump of snow on the monday (40cm or so) and that opened up virtually the whole resort. We had two days of amazing blue skies too. It was awesome up on the top, above the Gondola. There is probably just a little bit too much 'yomping' (skiing on the flat!!!), particularly at the bottom of the gondola, but I guess it helps you loose your holiday excess fat!

We stayed at the Iglika Palace villas. These are self contained wooden villas set behind the main hotel, on the edge of the forest. They are VERY basic, but quite fit for purpose. They are warm, clean and comfortable, and most of all very quiet. If you have a young family they are ideal. We didn't cook our own food as the facilities are extremely limited.

I'd like to thank Kas for all her reports from Borovets. I was pretty much obsessed with her 'updates' throughout January. And it's good to see there has been plenty more snow falling, which should ensure a good remainder of the season.

So, in summary, I would recommend Borovets to anybody. You get a hell of a lot of skiing for your money out here. The town itself, has a great deal of charm, and there are plenty of places for Apres ski. Our favourite was the 'Black Cat'. Nice food (and drink!). and a lovely log fire.

I have a couple of minor quibbles.
Firstly, the choice for beginners who are looking for a bigger challenge than the nursery/green slopes is very limited. There are not many nice wide blues for the beginners looking to step up to a more challenging run.

Secondly, the nursery slopes are all below intermediate slopes. In other words, the faster more able skiers can ski straight through the nursery runs. To be fair, I saw very little in the way of idiotic skiing whilst we were there, but you do get the occasional pillock zipping through the greens at high speed.

My highlights were on a clear blue sky day, standing in the middle of Yastrebets 1 with nobody around. It was empty!

Also skiing in the freshly fallen powder on the monday. marvellous.

All in all Borovets is a great place to go skiing. It offers terrific value, and a lovely mountain to ski on.

Hi Everyone.... Only just recovered from our mad week!!!!

I'm a Sumo!!!

My only complaint was the Red Dragon Chinese Rest....

7 of placed our order for drinks, starters and main meal, We got our drinks and starters then waited and waited and waited, We finally asked the waiter where our meals were, to our surprise he said we had not ordered!!! very very strange.

Other than that we had and amazing time for our 9th visit!!!
