re: Bansko 2011

Personally, I think the best time is February, but avoiding half term. Or Early March?

re: Bansko 2011

Febs going to be busy, half term and then World Cup skiing at the end of Feb. Personally i think March is the best month anyway, longer days, less likely poor weather, and if we have snow, we definately have had it by then...

re: Bansko 2011

Definately avoid Feb Half term, and Christmas and New Year can be risky for snow and very busy.
As Steve mentions will also be busy during world cup event, and there will be piste closures for piste preparation and often other closures to give competitors training piste space.
We normally go at the end of Jan, snow cover is normally good by then, and the weather is normally cold enough for the snow cannons to fill in for a snow shortage.

March can be really good, you can have warmer weather and the snow base can be very good, I have skied in a tee shirt on a couple of occasions in March in Bansko, the risk is that the warmer temparatures later in the month can melt the snow lower down closing the ski road and the lower pistes, but conditions on the top down to Bunderishka Polyana normally remain good. If going in late March it might be best to book as late as possible.

re: Bansko 2011

Half terms late this year as well around 20th of the month rather than the 10th, so watch that one.

There are rarely any queues this time of the year Did go earlier in Jan once and it was busy due to the local holidays in Eastern Europe. Last year the New Year Queues were bad, but this may have been worstened by the poor snow in other resorts causing many people to be bussed to Bansko.
When we went this year there was a competition on but this didnt make to much difference as it was a European competition.
Half term is late next year so the first week in Feb should be okay, Steve C may be able to let you know if there are any holidays first week in Feb next year, hope this is some help.
