Hi,
Thinking about going to Bansko in January. What should the conditions be like? Only been skiing once before, and heard Bansko is good for beginners/intermediate, any thoughts anyone?
Went to Pamps this year in March and there was virtually no snow! Plenty of ice though!!
Does anyone know much about the Banderitsa Hotel in Bansko, if so, please tell me what your opinions are.
Cheers
Tracy.

Bansko is great for your level of skiing and hopefully the snow should be good in Jan. The slopes are much wider than in Pamps and longer+ higher in places. The ski road in particular is a lovely run to get your confidence up because it is long and gentle although do not go right to the bottom first thing in the morning as you may find youself stuck in th que for the Gondola again.
Also Bansko is a town so many more places to eat and drink than Pamps.

Can't speak for Bansko but Borovets is also good for beginners been to Pamps with snow and it simply doesn't compare with Boro..
Going to Bansko for the first time in March but not before my yearly fix of Borovets lol

Hi,
yep, we're also going in Jan. Last year was good. Great facilities for learners and intermediates. You'll be in safe hands. The instructors are great and very attentive. Over the last year the pistes have been bashed and they were completely different in '08 from '07, like skiing in a different resort. Obviously, it depends on several variables such as the amount of snow and how much it may have been flicked into moguls by other skiers.
Rest assured, relax into the adventure and use any icy patches as learning experiences. Your technique will improve and so will your confidence.

the banderitsa is a nice hotel, , It is about 1k from the gondola but uphill, ok if you are renting ski stuff from near the gondala, but otherwise you can use there courtesy bus.
It is near the old town centre and best /cheapest restuarants

Well Tracy
Stumped for choice? We have done Borovets for the past 8 years and had a brilliant time also 1 week in Bansko, I feel Bansko has the edge as the runs are well groomed, wide and open also you are able to get nearly to the top even in windy conditions in the gondola as opposed to Boro gondola.
The problem with Bansko I feel is the queing for the gondola in the mornings, as an early riser we had no problems get to the station by 0800hrs and your away leave it till 0830hrs then you hang around in the que for quite a while.
Again someone mentioned the snow road back, if there is good snow cover or the sprinklers are on this is a good run back at the end of the day to finish off. Then a quick half or two in the Happy End Bar. ENJOY
I'm heading back for Borovets Jan17th and a biggy Canada, Panorama Feb 24th.

Stayed in Banderitsa in July when I was signing my deeds. Was there b&b. The food was quite good. Staff very friendly quite basic but cosy. Have a courtesy bus to the gondola. Lot of irish people stay here.

Hi Tracy..
Stayed in the Banderista a couple of seasons ago on a half board basis. Had a great deal so thought it must be missing something. How wrong was i !!. Very friendly well run hotel, nice rooms, spacey and very clean. Good facilities as well. The really good thing was the half board arrangement, you could have the set evening meal or a voucher which you can use in the celler bar at any time. I have had a lovely plate of calamari after midnight The courtesy bus runs every ten minutes though i always stored my skis and boots at the gondolar so i was often (every night ??) waylaid on the walk home in a bar and because its only 10 mins from the square i was able to explore and stagger home. I now live only 500m from the hotel and in my mind have the best of all worlds, easy access to the town and the gondolar.
Everyone is predicting a good season snow wise, we already have snowcapped mountains around us, fingers crossed for the early snow, even Ulen are gearing up with Bansko opening two weeks early this season

Just started snowing in Bansko We'd recommed - stayed in January in Bansko Royal Towers for £200 for four of us! Ski passes were about £115 for a week ski. What have you decided to do?

Had loads of good reports for both Bansko and Banderitsa Hotel so all booked up for 17th Jan. Hope we get more snow than in Pamps this year (March)!
If anyones out there between now and Jan, please give me an update on weather nearer the time, good news only!!
