Bansko Jan 2010

I would be grateful if ayone could provide me with the benefit of their experience. Can anyone tell me if Bansko is busy on the first week of January and what the queues are like for the Gondola?

Very, very busy and loooooooooong queues. If you do a search on You Tube there should a some footage of queues from last Jan.
Resort had loads of Greeks and Romanians and when they left the Russians turned up to celebrate their New Year.
If this is you firstd time to Bansko or your only ski trip of the season I would think very hard about going at this time of year.

re: Bansko Jan 2010

People also forget that the reason the queues were so bad was because there was no snow anywhere else. We had people from Serbia, Greece etc etc and people being bussed from Borovets and Pamporovo due to the fact they had no snow.

It will always be busy at that time as it is part of the New Year week. Just get up early to miss queues and do not go when ski school times are heading up to the mountain. This does help.

Also there are transport services to bypass the gondola queues. ...

Also there are transport services to bypass the gondola queues. Taxi's etc and we also do a bypass gondola service to the top of mountain but we prefer prebookings so as we can arrange our timetables.

Everywhere is busy at xmas new year weeks not just Bansko.
