Author : Colin (78.149.161.---) posts : 229 Date : 02-09-10 00:30 Having spent the last 4 ski holidays in Borovets, we are heading to Bansko for the first time in March.
I like Borovets, because beginners (and my 3 year old) can play around on the nursery slopes at the bottom without having to buy a lift pass etc.
I was just wondering, is this possible in Bansko too, or do we have to get on the gondola to get to any slopes? |

Author : sam (---.12-1.cable.virginmedia.com) posts : 4124 Date : 02-09-10 00:47 you maybe able to get away with a pass for the gondla if you just want to get up to the ski area. If you want to use the nursery slopes though you will need a full lift pass. |

Author : Colin (78.149.161.---) posts : 229 Date : 02-09-10 01:08 Oh well, that's disappointing! I think all resorts should have a cheap pass for the nursery slopes for little ones and complete beginners who maybe just want to play for an hour....Looks like we may just have to spend a couple of days in Borovets too...
Thanks for the info |

Author : Steve C (85.118.193.---) posts : 1641 Date : 02-09-10 11:06 If you wish to play for an hour, get a lift up to the top of the gondola in a taxi or private bus (6 - 10lv each), and ski down the ski road, or try Challin Valog, there is an area by the lift that you can walk to, and have a little practice, or get the little'n on a sledge.... |

Author : don (212.183.140.---) posts : 298 Date : 02-09-10 13:11 Colin,
I think your best bet with the little one would be to take the gondola to the top, or as steve suggested a taxi, the gondola is 18lv adult and 14 lv child (£9 and £7), the taxi option may work out cheaper if you fancy the 4 mile walk back down the ski road, you can tow the little one behind, but be aware the ski road can be busy, you wont be too popular if you are right in the middle of the piste!!.
The area at the top of the gondola is popular with locals for taking their young ones sledging, many of them drive up there, also you have the advantage of the toilets and restraunts as well.
Chalin Valog is the half way point of the gondola, go to banskoski.com and look at the piste map.
Hope this helps.

Sorry, forgot to mention that the ski road is only really busy at the end of the day when the ski schools finish, during the mornings it can be quiet. |

Author : Colin (78.149.161.---) posts : 229 Date : 02-09-10 13:17 Thanks Don, I didn't realise that you can drive to the top! I will have my car with me so maybe that's the solution. Is it easy to find parking at the top without upsetting anyone??
Colin... |

Author : don (212.183.140.---) posts : 298 Date : 02-09-10 14:22 You can drive but theres a barrier manned by Ulen prior to bunderishka Polyana, dont know what they charge to park though!! Theres normally space to park when I have looked but maybee they restrict the numbers at the barrier, there are other parking areas before the barrier, they are by the pistes, but not by the gondola top station, I think you will also be able to drive up to Shiligarnika, maybee steve c will know. |

Yes you have to pay 10 leva to get to the top and parking can sometimes be difficult up there. Why not get a lift up from your apartment with someone like Steve and then you can ski down the ski road back to town. |

Author : don (212.183.140.---) posts : 298 Date : 02-09-10 20:14 Sorry Dave,
Just wanted to round it up quickly to give a rough idea.
Colin said he has a car so probably would rather use that than pay for bus ride and leave car behind, the idea was for taking a very young child to play on a sledge for a while as mentioned in previous post, ski road may be to far for them. |
