I am driving form Sofia airport to Bansko later this week, but have two different sets of direciton. Both look to be the roughly the same distance. One route takes me on the E79, the other on the A1 ,
Any advice on which is the best route to take ?
Thanks !
E79 definately, once out of Sofia its a doddle. Even Zsar Boris III has improved now...
The only problem is maybe the outer ringroad, can get busy especially down to Zsar Boris, but that apart, the road is better, especially the surface...
Did the A1 and on to Belova, up the gorge and on to Yakoruda last week for a change, yes, nice views but little time to see as you are concentrating so hard to miss the potholes...
steve is right, but i was say it depends on what time you are going. there are roadworks on the road out of Sofia to Pernik, so the ringroad will be very busy.
there are two other routes wort considering, i have done them both. you can take the Borovets road to Samokov, then the road to Dupnitza or and i did this when I was stuck on the ringroad, a bit further on is a road to the left signposted Samokov, and that road comes out on the Samokov Dupnitza road, it is steep but not a bad ...

I think it would of taken that long on the ringroad. You go over Vitosha, great views ! through a place called Bistrisa
