We will be attending the opening, and the following weekend Nightmuffy will be competing in the Bulgarian Open Cup in downhill. We have identified some great accommodation right in resort apart from the already advertised Rila, some right by the lift...
In the off-season (ski season ?) we have discussed with the managers their plans, a bike shop for hire and spares/repairs, a list of summer events, and further expansion of the park...
Exciting times really, this s the first official MTB park in Bulgaria, and if we are to take the success of Alpine resorts with similar plans, then this has to be a boost for Bulgaria in general. We are hopeful that Bansko will take note, and that some time in the future we also will have a bike park...
We will keep all informed as to developments...

Here a message from our mate over in Samokov.....

Hi Wendy and Steve,
Yesterday I walked up to the top of the Sitnyakovo lift and then followed the bike track back down.
I saw and spoke to Sasho who has a gang of men working on the track. He told me they had done a bit of work at the top but in fact they have done a lot and I think you will love it.

From the top of the chair where you enter the trees the track down is all new until you come out on the ski slope under the Rila four man chair lift. From the Sitnyakovo lift the run now stays to the right of the ski slope where as before it crossed to the left about half way, there has been a lot of work with the construction of new steps, jumps, a table top, a bridge and berms. To me it looks seriously challenging but Sasho said it is easy, he has already been down it. By the way I don't believe him when he says it is easy, maybe for him!
The next bit through the trees after the short bit on the slope under the Rila chair is unchanged until it drops down to cross the green ski path. It now goes more to the left, there is still quite a bit of construction going on but it looks like it will still be steep. After crossing the road there is a big drop down to a new bit of track that meets with the existing track about half way down towards the finish.
Sasho said that they are also doing, or will do, more family friendly cross country tracks from the Sitnyakovo lift. I understood that they will do down hill from the gondola but not this year.
Sand showed me your photos on Face book, the last one is where the down hill crosses the green ski road and then drops down to the finish, the other two I did not see but they look to be under the Sitnyakovo lift so probably a different run.
I did not have a camera with me yesterday but when I go again I will take some photos for you.
They are doing a serious job and let's hope it brings us some customers.
