Borovets, watch your prices

Just back from a great week in Borovets. Having been before noticed huge increase in prices in bars etc..., holiday still reasonabley priced as was ski school etc.... but Borovets needs to watch out as one of the attractions is the prices for people who haven't been before, once you have been you'll love it anyway.
Pizza on lower slopes lunch time 16 levs (£6.50), upper slopes 20 levs (£Cool, upper slopes hot choc + hot choc with Brandy 24 levs (£10), red bull small can 10 levs!!!!! (£Cool ...

That sounds absolutely absurd. Never been to Boro but was in Pamps 2 yr ago and remember pizza at midstation was 4 lev and beer 3lev. Those prices are a rip off by english standards let alone Bulgs Sad Crying

This does not sound good, the only reason i booked borovets was because its ment to be a cheap resort......looks like some ppl have got to greedy.

The price increase could be the nail in the coffin,as they say.

Be interesting to see if the bulgarian resorts get so many ppl returning.

Don't like the sound of this either to be honest! One of the main attractions of Bulgaria is the fact it's cheap!

You can get good deals to go to France etc for the same price as the holiday in Bulgaria but you know your going to spend so much more whilst there when you go to France, but if that stops becoming the case then why would people go to Bulgaria over France??

re: Borovets, watch your prices

That's a great shame. The best thing about Borovets was the price of a meal and a drink and the most friendly people on the planet. I don't think friendly people and average skiing will keep people returning. Watch this space.

If you want keen prices, especially on drinks get yourselves to the Alpina (opposite the Flora). They are an English couple who are fighting a lone battle to keep prices down. E.g. A large beer in happy hour is 1Lev outside of happy hour is 1.80. Apart from that they are terrific hosts, nothing is too much trouble and they do a great sing along night. They deserve our support. Very Happy

re: Borovets, watch your prices

I think around 8 levs was about average for large beer, 7 levs for a coke most places, lunchtimes, I lev around 0.40p so £3.20/£2.80, not good if you are taking little uns.We topped up from bottles in our rooms in the evenings, which we bought at the airport on our way in.
