| Driving from Sofia to Bansko |

Author : Razor (137.71.226.---) posts : 4 Date : 06-02-09 23:36 Hi,
On June 24th (Wednesday) I will be arriving in Sofia airport at 4pm and from reading previous threads this looks like a bad time to try and go to Bansko via the link road due to rush hour traffic.
I am thinking of driving to Bansko via Samokov and Yakoruda.
Is this a good idea???
If not, what is the best/easiest alternative route
Thanks,
Ray |

If you want to go through Yakoruda you'll head off down E80 towards Velingrad, drop off near Kostonets and head for Belova, up the gorge towards Yolunda and Yakoruda...
Between the two i would suggest Samokov, better road (though not great) but should be a bit quieter than coming out of Sofia on Zsar Boris III, though sometimes you can be lucky, its only really busy at the junction of ringroad, and the cobbles have improved greatly since the completion of two new strips of tarmac either side. |

Author : Mat (---.sofia.cabletel.bg) posts : 1183 Date : 06-03-09 16:11 With the congestion on the main road due to roadworks (or rather the utter lack of any), the stretch from Pernik to Sofia is basically one long traffic jam from 5-8 pm. Avoid like the plague. |

If we get on the road from Sofia airport by ~4-4.15pm we might try going via Zsar Boris III and E79, but if it's any later, then I think we'll go the Samokov-Dupinitsa-Blagoevgrad route. |
