Im new but hey! ;)

Hey Guys & Girls,

I've booked a trip to bansko the 21 feb till the 28 feb, with ski pas to 6 days. It's hopefully gonna be great. But i do have some questions, that maybe you can answer for me! Wink

1: Bansko skiresort - What is the quallity compared to etc: Sweden or others?.. 0 is lowest and 10 is highest.

2: I've read that bulgaria is a kinda poor country, when compared on the ammount of money per. citizen. Is this correct?. Cause i've found prices on this forum, that compared to ...

3: City Night-Life?

4: Extreme Act: Snowmobile, chopper jump, bungie, parachute?

5: I have visa, but many tells me that i would be better to have allmost all the money with me from home, because of the "change rate".. (Thinking about euro's) is it true?..

Many thanks, i do hope that this will become a great trip Wink.

Hi Mikkel
1. Just back - skiing not as extensive as many resorts in Alps, but snow was wonderful. Equipment pretty new - lots of investment into it. Compared to St Anton/Val - 3 to Mayrhofen/Livigno - 8

2. There are many very poor people living on very low salaries eg orphanage worker takes home about £90 per month. On the other hand, there are many wealthy folk - loads of 4 x 4's BMW's etc. Came across some brats on the slopes who wouldn't listen to their instructor as they were at the ...

On the other hand, there are many wealthy folk - loads of 4 x 4's BMW's etc. Came across some brats on the slopes who wouldn't listen to their instructor as they were at the most expensive private school in Sofia and their parents were very wealthy. Much cheaper than Denmark or UK. You can get a good meal including wine for £8-£10

3. Didn't participate in night life, but there seems to be ample - heard lots of stories from those who partied while waiting for the gondola.

4. There are snowmobiles and saw some hang gliders, don't know about the rest.

5. Many places don't take credit/debit cards and some charge extra for euros, bring levs and there are plenty of banks and cash machines when you need more.

Have a great time. Very Happy

Mikkel,
If you are used to Swedish/Finnish resorts you will find Bansko a big contrast.
The ski resort has many runs in the trees which is usefull in poor weather, I can remember how exposed the slopes were in Finland, I believe much of Sweden is the same but not sure as limited visits to Sweden.
Food and drink is no where near the quality you will find in Sweden, however it it also no where near the price either and is excellent value.

Although generally speaking Bulgaria may be classed as a poor country, the resort of Bansko and the town have benefitted from massive investment, in my opinion the ski infrastructure is a match to many smaller alpine resorts and it has something for all levels of skier, perhaps apart from experts.
The town itself benefits from both modern hotels and an atmospheric old town with many good pubs and restraunts.
As far as currency goes, you will need Levs which is the Bulgarian currency, you shouldnt have trouble changing Euros at the major banks, you may be able to use an ATM card from your bank at home, then you can draw money as needed without the problems of changing money.
Very few places will accept cards for payment.
There is plenty of night life varying from inns to all night clubs and I am sure you will find something to your liking.
I have been to Bansko 5 times, and having skied in other countries believe that Bansko provides good facilities at a reasonable cost and should provide you with an excellent weeks holiday.
Have an excellent time.
