Morzine

Have skied Bansko for last 3 years - will be going again in School Holidays 2009 (no where to match it for price for a family of 4).I Am planning a trip to Morzine with a group of Friends January 2009, heard really good things about the place. Has anyone ever stayed there? If so is it best to stay in Town Centre? Have been spoilt in Bansko last 3 years and stayed only 75metres from Gondola so would like to be close to a lift.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers

Hi Uptheowls (i love supporters of nature Confused)
Morzine to my mind is the nicest French town in the Porte Du Soleil, far better then Avoriaz, the highest skiing, but completely souless. The lifts access the ski area from the edge of town but nowhere is that far away. It is actually possible to ski back to Morzine (in good conditions) down a relatively easy off-piste run to a lift car park right on the edge of town, the swiss side, and on then down the side of the road. I actually skied to our chalets door one evening. The skiing is varied and the opportunity is there to ski in three countries, France, Italy and Switzerland, the system is well connected with wide open pistes for inermediates and some very stiff blacks (The Wall) if your man enough. Prices tend to be down on the premier resorts (Corcheval, Tignes etc) but still can be pricey in some bars. You are better placed in Morzine as it is a real town. January should be good snow wise, could be cold on top of Avoriaz but loads of tree lined runs below so you will be ok Very Happy

Enjoy, Steve C Booze

Would you say late Jan or Late Feb is the best time to ski Morzine? Got to go either before Feb school Holidays or After. Will be in Bansko for the school hols (looking forward to queing for the Gondola!!!)

re: Morzine

Hi Shaun..

Search the web for chalet accomadation, i stayed at a chalet right on the edge of town, it was owned by a couple from Seaton in East Devon, he was a butcher by trade and his wife a cook i think, as you can appreciate the food was fantastic. That was years ago, dunno if they are still there, will have to get my thinking cap on and try and remember the name of the chalet....
