Hi all. I'm off to (rainy?) Pamps next week and want to drive to the Greek coast via the new border crossing. After a bit of sun for a change.
Does anyone have directions for the quickest route to the coast and any recommendations for Greek coastal resorts in that neck of the woods
Also has anyone driven this route, if so how did you find it

To find the crossing is easy - unless the new road sighs have been nicked !!! Moey did it in March, with no problems. He went to Kavala and back in a day
I have been told that Kavala is nice, but haven't been yet, and also Xanti, and across to an island (forgotten the name !) All in all not a lot of help !! |

Will have to look into that one.
We have friends that go down to the Greek coast every summer, and a long list of recommendations !!! Have to say I have given the list a miss, cos I'd rather just go and explore !   |

Hi there. The nearest island is 'Thassos'. We're heading there for a week in August. Driving from Pamporovo. Would love to hear how you get on Nooky.

From Pamporovo/Smolyan just follow the signposts to Zlatograd and the border crossing. From there the road down to Greece is a bit of a drive. Not only are there the proverbial bends but the first bit is single lane only. At the moment it is for cars only and it goes up the mountain as well as down in parts - seems strange but that's life.
I have also been reliably informed that when the Rudozhem border crossing opens the road will be wider (dual carriageway)and straighter as trucks, coaches etc will be allowed on that one.
You can't really lose your way - just follow the road through the 3 small villages of Thermes (one which is Ano Thermes ), through Sminthi etc . We entered just above Xanthi. We then drove through Xanthi and directly south to head for beach areas.
I have done the journey about 3 times now. Andie |

Let us know - me Claireabella have not driven down there yet but have done Thassos a few times - Tis a nice place to be if you stay in the town!!!

If anyone feels like making the trip to Preveza Greece - I will have an apartment to rent next summer. Greek hotels tend to be very expensive - from the Sandanski border - Preveza is approx 4hrs drive
