Spider hotel/bar/restaurant at mid station warning.
My husband and I have just returned from a great hol in Pamporovo where we have an apartment. Our son is currently there with 3 friends and enjoying the great skiing. However I have justs spoken to him and he said that on the first night they where in the Spider bar below the hotel at the mid station for a few hours. They were charged the equivelent of £180 for the pleasure of drinking there. I know they should have checked the price of each round before ordering but this does appear excessive by Bulgarian standards and given what they drank would have been a lot by London standards. They spoke to the manager before paying the bill but could not get this reduced. I would say that on a previous trip we lunched at the Spider restaurant and after leaving realised we had been overcharged. The moral of the tale is check prices very carefully and don't use this particular restaurant/bar! We have never encountered this type of overcharging in any other restaurant/bar and have always found the owners to be honest and hard working. We will certainly never return to the Spider/restaurant/bar, and we do go to Pamps frequently, nor recommend this to any of our guests or friends. What a shame that it takes only one greedy establishment to make a bad impression! |

Surely after the first round they realised they were been ripeed off ???? It costs nothing to ask price of something or actually query a bill |

i expect that they didnt pay for the drinks round by round but one bill at the end of the evening which is common in Bulgaria |

Someone should pass this on to the Pamporovo resort management as this kind of behaviour will have negative impacts for the resort as a whole. Time for 'a quiet word'... |

Thanks for the warning - will avoid, we ate there and it was ok, but more expensive than many. Hate hearing about that sort of rip-off though. |

Is it a rip off?
£180 / 4 = £45 each.
A good session of internation brands, Jack, Smirnoff, S Comfort @ say £3 a drink (they are expensice in bulgaria) = 15 drinks.
Easy done. And some more!!! |

Why didn't they ask for an itemised bill. From memory, the tills in there are EPOS tills and thus provide a drink-by-drink receipt. |

You can drink 15 shots of spirits? Seriously?
An expensive resort bar (such as the Happy End) charges around 6-8 leva per drink. Lets say 10 leva. That's the equivalent of 9 UK doubles per person for 360 leva. Even if you include a couple of 'extra' drinks added on by the bar staff and a tip, you'd want to be seriously drunk for that kind of bill.
Consider yourself lucky - normally if you try and argue you get a thick neck who doesn't speak English throw you out on your arse. And a beating thrown in for free. |

In fact Stevie D and I experts at consuming alcohol.
It seems the lads are a reasonable age, lets say 20 - 30's, add a couple of bottles of fizzy stuff, a few snacks and bish bash big cash even in BG.
