Ok, here goes..... Re. Bansko piste expansion.....
Have seen helicopters going up to cherna mogila area carrying steels and can only assume that it is for avalanche protection. Very heavily rumoured that the Akidemika chair will be re-opened this season.
Remember, if it actually happens, you heard it here first, if it dont, `i dunno what your talking about ?? i said what ?? nahhhh'...........

If it were to reopen - what would the runs be? Blue (easy/med/hard) Red (easy/med/hard) or Black (easy/med/hard)?
Last season I found the blue run from the top of the mountain past the Fun park very challenging - maybe too much... Mind you it was in a heavy snow fall visability was terrible.

Welshy, if you found that blue run challenging then you will almost certainly find the Akidemika runs very difficult and possibly even dangerous for your current level of skiing.
I would have though that only the advanced ski classes will be taken up there and there may even be a few warning notices up at the bottom of the chairlift warning skiers/boarders of the terrain.
Looks bloody awesome though! Hopefully it does open again so that I can head on up and enjoy the turns.

They would also have to clean the piste of all the trees that have grown there in the last 10 years. Unless, hope against hope, they leave it as an ungroomed powder paradise..... I'd also hope they did some serious maintenance on the lift!

Have been to see this morning, there seems to be no activity actually on the mountain and the chair, well take a look at the vid, but there is something going on, building materials (sand, stone) is being dumped near to the base and enginers with theodolytes are measuring something ?? Will keep everyone posted...

The fun park (or board park ??) is to the right of blue 11 from the middle to the bottom of the bowl. There are jumps, rails, tabletops etc...
The Akademika chair accesses red 14 and rises to 2245m, the area is actually referred to as Ctzurna Mogila and is on the Vihren side...
The top is very open, south facing and very susceptible to avalanche, it drops into a tree lined run, a very stiff red, quite narrow, twisting its way to the valley. If it was to re-open the only down side i can see is that it will be a bit of a hike to the Bunderishka Polyana lifts, though you could slip off down the ski road to Challin Valog, in both cases you would have to cross the river and there are only a couple of bridges...
Fingers crossed eh, Challin Valog was a great addition last season, Ctzurna Mogila is the logical next addition

Have done some digging (pun ??) and come up with the reason for the materials at the top of the gondolar. They are laying a carpark
The reason is basically the arrival of the world cup in Feb, this has also been the major factor in the resurfacing of the road up to Shilligarnika.....
Still not given up on Akademika, fingers still crossed...
But good news on Dobriniste, the tarmac is being laid as we speak, fantastic improvement already and will definately be finished for the season
Positive waves Moriarty, positive waves
