Hi, the season normally starts aprox 7 days before christmas(25/12/) and with regard to the snow it can be pot luck. I have been twice at christmas and been lucky. If you are a reasonable skier you should have no trouble with snow at the top of the gondola but if its shut due to wind then the lower slopes can be a bit rough and crowded.I went in january this year and the snow up top was excellent but due to the warm temp the lower slopes were unskiable, but we still had a great time. its pot luck anywhere really, last three years in Boro have been skiable, was poss from 5th December this year, also with the new snow cannons up top the aim is to extend the season both ways, ie early and late, but as to guarantee......hands of the gods old chap, i mean i thought it was summer in the uk at the moment but i must have just drempt that!!! Booking for 15th December is a huge gamble. Personally I would leave it until Jan but that's up to you.

Must agree with PP on this. would leave till jan if you can. been early jan for last 3years, only last year was the snow really good. if you can leave booking till last minute there are alot of bargains, that way you will be able to see what the snow is like before you go!!

Is skiing in Bulgaria good in Feb???

Hi,

I was thinking of goining skiing in Bulgaria in late February (28th ish). Does anyone know if the skiing is likely to still be good or is it better to go a bit earlier?

Thanks,

I was out there skiing in march last yr,have to say it was very warm and lots of the lower slopes had no snow but having said that it is usually a good time of the season to go,i'm going to Boro in Jan then Basko in march fingers crossed for plenty of the white stuff..

The ski season is to start 1st December in Bansko according to the local newspapers, with staff starting 29th november. This is because there is usually snow at that time of the year and they have found people actually want to ski then. Keep an eye on the ulen website as it will have to kick off again soon

re: When does the bulgarian ski season start?

The season with enough snow starts when there is white stuff present on the ground providing the lifts are ready.
Personally I would avoid December or just book at the very last moment knowing that snow is plentyfull and the situation is good.
Only Few people wanting to ski -does not make financial sence to open the lifts.
Usually around the Student's International Day(8th December) some lifts will open in the knowledge that there will be enough drunken yougsters to bash in the snow but ...

After that the resorts are dead with only locals (not enough) virtually until just before Xmas when the main tour operators start flying tourist in.
