Developers have been talking about this for years... still nothing and building it would take years.
Last I heard Green peace/green parts/ national park were against it as it would result in felling of x thousand trees.
I hope it goes up though asap.

Have been told by someone who works in Bansko that it has just got the official go-ahead but don't know when they will start building.

The construction company responsible for the ground works including the bases for the new Challin Valog four man chair have been contracted for the installation of the new gondolar and the avalanche protection on the Akidemika side of Bansko, the old red chair unused for six seasons. This information was relayed to me through the Ulen gondolar security officer (as i was being errrrr chastised for using someone elses lift pass)....
He could not give me dates but works are supposed to start this summer, believe it ?? or believe it not ??

I'm not sure what i'm more surprised about, the gondolar security officer having inside knowledge or the gondolar security officer being able to speal english.
there is only one person you should believe, and that's Tseko Minev.

I think the spelling of 'gondolar' makes it sound rather posh.

If they are stating 2009/10 then to me given personal experiance on completion dates it could easily be the season after that... 2010/11.
Either way until there is a press release announcing this then as much as we all want it to happen its unreliable info.
Also if it has been given the nod then there is no need to keep it quiet.

Judging by Ulen's previous history, there will be no press release, they will just get on with it.

The provide terrain for second ski cabin lift is fixed for the locality of "Sredoreko". The chosen terrain is conformable to the income of city of Bansko to outlet on the mountain, the possibility to park, the look of the property and the possibility of transport and engineering security.

In reply to Snowy Norman, the guys name is Mitko (surname unknown to me), his english though not perfect was easily understood. He overlooked my indescretion of using someone elses season pass, i had commented on the actual price of lift passes and this had prompted him to relay said information regarding planned investment. I wonder if he was just trying to impress me, i mean he had let me off the pass (could have been banned from the mountain for two days supposably) perhaps he was lonely and looking for a friend ???

We've always been told that that area is a major avalanche area, the reason the lifts have been closed for so long on that side of the ski area. It won't just be a matter of building a new gondola , but also the mountain will have to be reconstructed in 'avalanche' shelves, which would contain any major snow fall/avalanche. This came from the guy who was in charge of installing the current gondola.
