Advice please.
Due to my mate dbut falling off his ladder unable to do Borovets last season
Went with my daughter & her fiance to Andora, most of the snow was sprinkler made.
I had a big problem with painful shins none of the ski shops had shin pads so I used cardboard pieces to give me some relief my legs were black and blue at the end of the week. I have my own boots.
Does anyone have any suggestions, would soccer shin pads help ?

theres something wrong with your boots if they are hurting that much. Are they hire boots? i have heard people use anything from bubble wrap to small sheets of foam if the front edge is rubbing. If you dont have your own boots , maybe have a look at getting some properly fitted and tell the fitter thats a rpoblem that happens to you. Hope that helps

Don't do your boots up so tight and as you have your own boots exercise in them before you leave to get your shins used to them.

You need to go to a ski boot specialist as it sounds as though there is something massively wrong with your boots if they are cuasing you that mucg agony.

I live out on the west wales coast (New Quay) any ideas on nearest decent ski shop

Try the dry slope at Pembrey mate,a bit of a treck i know but they are very good there...
Ok i too have had shin problems with boots over the yrs, last yr i found a perfect cure...
Socks with pads on the shins and if that does not work then you can get gel pac's which i've not tried but been told they work wonders..
Try ebay for both of the above and i'll look forward to skiing with you pain free in January..

Heavy man made snow can push you forward into your boots as you brace to cope with the slower surface. Still it sounds like you may have a problem with your boots, six years especially if you have had good use out of them is a reasonable time to have boots so changing them may be advisable. Padded shin panel socks would be a consideration as well, check out `Thorlo', very good socks with varying knits, i use the thinnest but are still very good....

The funny thing is i got the padded socks from Aldi last yr.After 3yrs of paying £10 a pair the £3.49 socks from Aldi were better than em all...
Hywl, try the ski shop at Pembrey for new boots,if they don't fit them right in 3 goes you get new boots or yr money back mate grat service and they really know their stuff matey..
I'll take you up on the beer fella,i'm flying out of london mate no hotel this yr going the cheap way lol,get into resort by mid day which will be great for half a day extra skiing..

Steve C,
I totally agree that using the thinest socks is definitely the way forward from a technical point of view.

The whole idea of ski boots is to have them as tight to your feet as possible so that you can better control the skis - wearing a thick layer of socks defeats this.

Fitted flexible powerstraps can help tremendously. Removes the (Often unnecessary) need to have the buckles of the upper cuff cranked up so tight while maintaining good foot to boot feel/contact. It also helps buffer any unwanted impact to the shins and allows for more fore/aft ankle movement in the boot which can facilitate an improvement in your skiing.
Gel packs can be obtained and fitted to your skin under the ski sock but I'd personally try to cure the cause rather than the result. The services of a good coach focussing on your skiing and use of your equiptment might be the best first step.
Regards

try to buy new inners if you find for this model or better just buy new pair .
get it properly fited .Mat on here is correct they have to be as close fit as possible without any movement.Maybe the old boots have changed shape or your feet have done this which is normal anyway.
wear them good few hours in your house and most importantly before your holiday so the skin gets used to being squashed.
Think about it!
Would you go for a marathon run with brand new shoes?I would't.
