Bankso or Borovets with new cannons?

Hi all,

So looking to come to BG over Xmas/NY conscious the snow may be poor - but with the snow cannon's in place thinking we may be able to do some skiing.

Till i read Kas's post was def leaning towards Bansko - but now i'm not so sure; do the 2 resorts now have the same amount of cannons - what would you recommend?
p.s - we're not beginners - i'd say intermediate..

Thanks,
Maria

Bansko is still deffinatly far better equipped with snow making facilities. Borovets is still playing the catching up game, both pamporovo and bansko can pretty much sustain there entire resorts with snow making. borovets has not put that kind of investment in yet.

35 new cannons were installed in Bansko over the summer, it now boasts maybe the highest concentration of cannons per km in Europe with 250 for 50km of piste... There is also a new avalanche trigger system being installed, the actual location still remains a secret ? but it likely will be off the side of Todorka, this system works combining fuel gas and air and pumping it out over the snow (heavier than air) and then igniting it to create an explosion.. the system is very expensive so it ...

wow - 35 new cannons???? Where are they?

I suppose a trigger system for the other side would be too much to ask for? Get that red open Wink

35 new cannons. Smile

I wonder if this means that finally Red 12 will stay open inline with all other runs or have the issue to be the first to close (which then means blue 10 & Blue 11 just get so much foot flow its very slow and gets cut up quickly).

re: Bankso or Borovets with new cannons?

Red 12 could really use the cannon coverage... I's hope that would be an obvious target for new cannons...

The problem with red12 is the available water pressure, that said the lower section has been covered and the 3 small streams have been culverted... Last season it was skiable and it was a very poor season snow wise... A lot of new high capacity cannons have been installed around the nursery area, and others have been updated, the linking path to the red in Challin Valog has also been updated.... The avalanche trigger still remains a mystery, it will need a longer visit up the mountain, a bit ...
