Captain Slow..
We've never been to the Alpina on previous visits, but I'm sure we, along with plenty of others will try it this year.

re: Borovets, watch your prices

I remember getting shouted down last year for saying most people only go to Bulgaria because its was good value for money. I'm going again in February but if I think I'm being ripped off or the prices have going up by a ridiculous level I won't be going back.
The Alps have got far better skiing, so Bulgaria has got make itself attractive in other ways eg cheaper prices.

For a place that markets itself on being 'value for money' or plain cheap, a 20%+ price hike is a bit of an own goal.

It would be like the three valleys closing 20% of their lifts and expect to get away with it.

By all accounts, it has been 'quiet' in terms of numbers this season due to last years 'poor' snow. May be it will be quieter next year for a different reason. Lets hope so, I hate Q'ing Wink

For me, it's not just the actual effect these increases have on my bank account, but more the principal of being ripped off. Of course there's inflation, every country has it, but why do some bars charge 1,2 or even 3 hundred percent more than others? Simple.... they're greedy and ripping off tourists. Where in this country do you get 2 tariffs, one for residents and one for tourists? I hate being ripped off. Because of these increases people would be less likely to tip which is a shame, but ...

re: Borovets, watch your prices

Just got back from borovets today, and im going to agree the prices are ridicules. when i was looking on this forum before i went i was hearing lots of 1 lev bears 5 lev pizza etc. but having been there i wouldn't go again. prices are high even by english standards in some places. 10 lev for burger and chips (Macdonald's style things) thats £4 for something that was pretty nasty. bears in hotel were only 4 levs, but still thats £1.60 not that cheap really. i got charged 15 fricking lev in 1 ...

pizza's were like £7.00 at the time it didnt seem bad, as im use to paying that kind of money in places like lanzarote. but then i think back to Romania last year and theres a huge price difference. Borovets = bit of a rip off this time round.
