4 pound for 2 normal coffees in hotel perlik in pamps 10 levs thats 2 pound each ...... after 15 years to bulgarian ski resorts think it is time to look else where .. the resorts are ripping us off.. because the prices in towns are very different... i could go on and give you lots of examples but it is just one word ... pricey for limited resort

re: Borovets, watch your prices

This really isn't good news, I'm a huge fan of Borovets and I will be going back for the 6th time in a few weeks but the simply fact is that Bulgaria doesn't offer great skiing compared with other European resorts especially for the more advanced skiers so 'price' has always been one of the biggest attractions of Bulgaria...

Borovets is costing £400 including hire/pass etc and I will probably spend £200 (or atleast I thought I would only spend £200) so £600 in total, but yet I am going to ...

Borovets is costing £400 including hire/pass etc and I will probably spend £200 (or atleast I thought I would only spend £200) so £600 in total, but yet I am going to Switzerland in March for 270 euros including hire/pass etc plus £60 for the flight so about £260 in total! That means if I spend £340 out there it will have cost the same as Borovets but with loads more skiing available to me...

re: Borovets, watch your prices

Just back from Boro, and in the main prices have gone up by about 20-25%. Last year a large beer cost 3 lev on average, this year 4 lev, Pizza 12 lev up to 15, etc etc.

This is also compounded by the exchange rate being about 3 lev/£ last year, and now around 2.50. So a beer cost £1 last year and is now effectively £1.60.

Personally, I don't mind paying if you get the service and facilities. I do object to greedy BG's charging 5 lev for a hot wine on the slopes Fri, then charging 8 ...

Another big "UP" for the Alpina. Amy and Arie are there to break even, not make a mint. It's not the poshest place in town, but it is homely and you are made very welcome!

re: Borovets, watch your prices

Exactly why would one choose Bulgaria over France??
Its appeal was the fact it was soo much cheaper

re: Borovets, watch your prices

Well I'm off to Borovets on Saturday, so hopefully the locals will have heard about this post and gotten a taste for the fact that Brits are unhappy with pricing and will reduce in time for my visit. Yeah right - like that's gonna happen.
Don't you love the Mafia!

lizza

As been said, this is a budget resort, the only reason ppl go here is for the cheapness.I have just come back from meribel france,ok its very expensive but i knew this as i have been 3 x before the difference between the 3 valleys is vast so you`d expect to pay more but as i understand it borovets has little to offer when you compare it to somewhere like meribel. So i think thats why ppl have a problem with the price hike in borovets you do not get many runs for your ££££ but you can ...

I will give it a full report after i get back in feb.

But i must give this site 100% for all the info you get on here and at least with have some info on where to eat/drink and not to.

re: Borovets, watch your prices

I would like to volunteer myself for a mystery shop week to Borovets, all expenses paid please. I will aim to visit every bar/cafe/restaurant and take a photo of all their menus, display them on the net, then we all could boycott the fast buck merchants. People power rules OK.

re: Borovets, watch your prices

Great post Roland.

The germans are far more prudent with the money and obviously less attracted by a cheap pint.

I have stopped spending money there. Hopefully others will or wont book for next year. There has been alot of grumblings this season.
