Borovets for 2 days - advice

Hi All,

I'm coming to Sofia for a friends birthday this month and I have been in need to hit up some snow so last minute I've decided while in Bulgaria I want to look in to getting to Borovets before I look at changing my flights. Snow reports look good at the moment. I have novice/intermediate experience so don't need a lesson. And my mates are bailing so it might just be me at this stage.

I only want to go for 2 days of snowboarding. I am thinking of changing my flights from Friday night to arrive very late (11.55pm) on a Wednesday evening then leaving early from Sofia on Thursday morning (bus?) snowboard for a day or half day, stay one night, board the Friday then go back to Sofia by Friday night. I want to keep it relatively budget.

- what are my public transport options to get to Borovets? I read there's a bus with a changeover in Samokov but it take 2.5 hours and I can't find any timetables online. And is returning to Sofia pretty easy? What time is the last bus?

- Accommodation for single bed? Budget of course

- For the gear hire package below, how do I get it? Does Borosport have a rental shop on the main slope? And can they include a jacket and pants? (saves me taken them on plane)

http://www.borovets-bg.com/en/prices/ski_and_snowboard_equipment_rental/

Appreciate any responses, especially with time ticking to change my flights. Thanks for you time to read it. I'm really excited to try and make this work.

Regards,

Tim. Very Happy

re:Borovets for 2 days - advice

You can get the bus from Sofia to Samokov, it is plus minus a journey of an hour and they run every half hour. The bus goes into the Samokov bus depot from where you get the bus to Borovets which takes about 15 minutes. The prices are very reasonable, Sofia to Samokov about 7 Leva and from Samokov to Borovets 1.30 Leva.
So public transport is not a problem.
When you enter Borovets there are signs advertising rooms for 20 Leva a night so there are reasonable priced rooms available.

But as you only have a short time in Bulgaria why not snow board in Vitosha?
No travel involved and they run at night as well.
Could be a lot less hasel.

re:Borovets for 2 days - advice

Thanks for that suggestion. I didn't realized there was a ski slope so close.

Is Vitosha challenging and well equip with rentals etc.? There's no a lot of information on the net like for Borovet, but the map of the runs shows they are fairly basic. And will Vitosha be busy during the week?

I don't mind travelling to Borovets if it's only 1 or so hours and if it will offer more challenging terrain and runs.

Thanks again.
