Boro/Pamp/Chep .......

Hi, few questions ......

Been to Bansko handful of times (first occasion year after it opened, but not for a few seasons) and would like to try one of the other areas. The gondola queues and general busyness of the place have switched me off. So Boro or Pamps/Chep for an-inter cheap cheeky trip due to cost appeals (~£320 all in), out of main busy periods (welcome for suggestions on 'quiet' weeks). Don't need extras, have all own gear etc.

1) 'Best' places to stay at each, B&B Hotel, or maybe S/C. Clean, warm, secure, don't need lots of 'facilities'. I'm no longer a night howler, but enjoy a few beers and a 'walking distance' mooch, not taxis. Are there any major price differences of note between the areas? Mostly likely travelling as a pair of blokes, but sensible single supps don't preclude solo.

2) Can cope with anything groomed and most not, but having recovered from major stack, I'm not out to break any records (or amy more bones). Which has the best off trail terrain? I'm a 'boarder, if that matters, mainly used to bigger areas (Can Rockies, Milky Way etc) but am quite aware the limitations of what I'm proposing here.

3) I'm leaning towards Pamp/Chep, any reason why not? I take it there is a ski bus link via the two as per the map, included with lift ticket? Pamps looks 'spread out', Boro less so?

4) Am I wasting my time and should just put up with the Bansko herds as the terrain is ok enough, and I know it?

Personal experience & recommendations, other suggestions, welcomed, TIA

LJ .....

[p.s. Will be flying from EM/Man, always interested in like minded for possible group]

re:Boro/Pamp/Chep .......

Pamp is ok for complete beginner but you have to bus in each day, boro is very easy resort most hotels walking distance to center nice food in the bars, food in hotels is very average so don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. If your ok on drag lift then it's a very cheap holiday. But don't expect the runs to be like other big resort's.

re:Boro/Pamp/Chep .......

Pamps has a number of ski in - ski out complexes so not always necessary to bus in each day. The shuttle buses are running between Pamps and Chepelare so that is all included in the lift pass. If you want walking distance beers then town centre is probably better which would mean the ski bus down to the ski centre in the morning but to be honest the buses are fine - ho hassle. Personally I'd always rather stay in town and bus to slopes rather than stay at slopes and taxi to town.
Just shout ...

Just shout if you have any questions about Pamps and I'll do my best to help.

re:Boro/Pamp/Chep .......

SWS .... many thanks, just the type of info I was looking for.

Yeah, I'd rather stop in town and have a shortish bus ride to the slopes, to be amongst the bars. What's the journey time, ten minutes or so?

By 'town' what do you mean, there are several clustered around the area? Which town, and any recommendations on accom (bearing in mind for cost it'll probably be with BH so would need to be allocated to them)?

Favorite bars?

Apologies for all the questions, but it's to get a ...

Cheers, LJ

But only from London I believe, so if you are based near Manchester then probably not suitable anyway.

Dave thanks, I'm ok with a 'little less' nightlife as long as there are a couple of decent bars, for a week it's always enough. Nice avatar by the way, saw 'em first in '79, then by accident many years later at the 'Rock & Blues' .......

As regards flights and transfers, it is what it is ....... For cost reasons it will be a last minute cheapy with BH and, as the only fly into Sophia and I'll probably go from MAN, it's all a bit moot.

So ....... What are the off trail/side country options in Pamps? Is Borovets better? Pamps is widely seen as a 'beginner' resort so does the off trail get tracked out quickly or is it largely unexplored?

I'm guessing from the limited digging I've done the 'town' is centered around the Perelik/Orlovetz Hotels? If not where?

Help me out here guys ........

[I think this trip might just be a solo anyway]

re:Boro/Pamp/Chep .......

Yes its a 5-10 mins ride to the ski centre from Pamporovo town centre. The 'town' is small - a few bars, restaurants and hotels. And all interlinked by passages and tunnels which is really useful in bad weather. Yes Perelik, Murgavets, Snezhanka are all town centre. Pamps also has Chepelare resort now so that's good for a days alternative.
