Restaurants and Prices - Borovets

Hi everyone,

New to the forum and looking forward to our first trip to Borovets at Christmas. My wife and I have been to Bansko before and loved it.

I've booked my family and I into the Hotel Yastrabets, which looks very nice and gets good reviews, however as Bank of Dad will be paying for 6 of people (and we're talking youngest at 17 so will be hungry after a day's skiing!) I'm looking at ways of saving money especially in the food area. I've been quoted 24 euros per person per ...

I'm looking at ways of saving money especially in the food area. I've been quoted 24 euros per person per evening meal at the hotel, which seems steep even at regular European prices, so was wondering how that compares to restaurants in the town? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Regards,

Colin

Hi Colin,

Welcome to the forum mate, firstly if you have not booked evening meals in the hotel you will be glad when you get to Borovets, the meals in most of the hotels in resort leave a bit to be desired. Bulgarians mostly have there meals just warm and so not to great for people who like their food hot.

There are many restaurants in the resort to choose from and most are fine and not expensive, ones that I would recommend are :

There are many restaurants in the resort to choose from and most are fine and not expensive, ones that I would recommend are :
Bobbys Bar ( run by Kas & Bobby on here and Are a great source of information)
White Magic ( run by Christo, a mad character check out his ski vid on You tube )
Blue
Titanic.

All the above we have tried and love, there are more and I am sure some one else will post recommendations and price guilds
When have you booked for ? we have traditionally held a forum meet up each Sunday evening in Bobbys Bar , but thee will be people from the forum in Bobbys every evening just make yourself known.
There are a few of us who have been traveling to Borovets for a few years and you will see references to the Invasion, this is not as some people believe a gigantic booze up, but a comming together of a host of people of all ages ( Iam 65 this season ) who have meet in Borovets, had a fantastic time and decided do it each year. This has spread to such an extent that quite a few travel two or three times a season.

Hope to see you out in Borovets some time, we are out 27th Feb this year

Manc Tom

re:Restaurants and Prices - Borovets

Hi,
As Tom has said there are lots of Bars and Restaurants in Borovets that are good for food and are reasonably priced but dearer than in Samokov Town 7 km away. I mainly use Titanic, Blue, Marmicitas, and of course mainly Bobbies.
I am pretty sure the Yastrebets Hotel is at the bottom of the Yastrebets slopes, which means it is a little way out from Borovets itself and will require a Taxi ride unless the hotel provides Transport to the centre. If I am wrong I am sure someone will ...

There are lots of us that have been coming for several years and meet up throughout the season. Pop into Bobbies and say hello, you will be made welcome, especially if you say your off the forum.
Have a great holiday!!
I am out with my wife and 13 year old son twice this season.
All the best
John.

Hi Colin- and welcome!
yes as John has said your hotel, though very nice, is a very short taxi ride away from the village centre- taxis are available though - Plenty of really good eating establishments in the street including Bobbys new place!
Hope you enjoy it!
have fun

re:Restaurants and Prices - Borovets

Thanks everyone for the suggestions - much appreciated. Sounds like Bobby's is the place to be so I'm looking forward to trying it out. I'm sure the price of a taxi will outweigh the cost of staying in the hotel for food although we may mix it up a little depending on how tired everyone feels.

@Manc Tom - My wife, son and I are arriving on the 19th December and my two older kids and girlfriend are arriving on the 23rd. We'll be leaving on the 29th.

Thanks again and hopefully meet up ...

Hi,
We are out on the 26th December, myself, my wife, 13 yr old son and oldest daughter staying in the Iglika Palace in the centre of Borovets.
When you catch a taxi just make sure you agree a price first, some of them will otherwise charge extortionate prices. The price from Borovets to Samokov is about 15 levs ( roughly £6.00 ) Your hotel to centre of Borovets should be less as shorter distance.

The Yastrebets hotel has its own short drag lift on the edge of Yastrebets 3 slope, for use of hotel guests only. All three Yastrebets slopes are red to the bottom of the chair. There is a pathway that if the snow is ok because its not cannoned all the way you can ski to the Gondola bottom stątion in the resort centre. From top of yastrebets chair to mid station Gondola it is blue and you can then go to the top. Have a good holiday John, Cheryl and James.

re:Restaurants and Prices - Borovets

last year the price of a taxi was fixed at ten levs anywhere in the resort and that should cover the Yastrabeets hotel which should easily be covered by the cheaper meals or at least be about the same.

re:Restaurants and Prices - Borovets

Wow 24 Euro per person. Thats well OTT. I stay close to Yasterbets and quite often walk down to Borovets and get a taxi back (10 lev). Loads of places to eat .Unfortunatley my favourite has been turned into an Indian(Green King) Katys bar very good for steak.

For 24 EURO you can wine and dine like kings in Samakov

re:Restaurants and Prices - Borovets

24 Euro seems alot although the Yasberets hotel is a very nice hotel so will be slightly more expensive. If you go down to resort then you will spend a lot less than that. A decent steak with loads of trimming can cost about 15-20levs in resort which is currently less than £8 exchange rate yesterday 2.73levs to the pound.

Oh and Doveski7 the Greene King isn't an indian this year.

Was anybody in Samokov Hotel Panorama Restaurant?
Is it only for guests of the hotel or not? Smile
