Hi all!I have booked in the Samokov Hotel for 15th - 19th June 2002. I know i'ts out of season but I want to go walking - don't do snow.
What's all this I hear about beggars, prostitues and theft from rooms? Is it really that bad? Has any one been there in the summer? What should I expect?

I'm going in August, because I hate snow, too.As far as beggars, prostitutes, and thefts from hotel rooms are concerned, all of these nuisances exist here in England as well. I intend to do the same as I do at home: ignore the beggars and prostitutes, and take as many security measures as I can to prevent theft.

I went to the samokov twice in the winter and was not robbed once!! All i found were friendly people and lovely scenery.The food's a bit dodgy though- depends how strong your stomach is.
As for beggars and prostitutes, didn't see the latter and the beggars were not in your face like they are in British cities.
Hope you don't mind me asking but was your holiday expensive to book for the week? I made some good friends in borovets and am considering a return in summer as the walking is supposed ...

KATEThe Hotel works out about 16GBP per night for a double. The air fare is quite expensive, I haven't booked the flight yet as I am still 'shopping' around but BA is quoting 250GBP. We are only going for 4 nights and we are arranging this ourselves - not a package deal. I sure the walking with be fantastic!!!

If you want to make the most of the scenery in the short time you have in Borovets you may consider an experienced mountain guide. I know just the person and his rates are very very reasonable. He not only is very experienced in guiding, but he also is extremely good company and will make sure that you get to see the best of the mountain..If you would like more information or a contact name or number send me an email. Himy friends and i went to the samokov hotel both in the winter and the summer.
We saw beggars but they just went a way if you said no. Prostitutes we weren't asked lol. but they were around. The hotel was alright just put your valubales in the hotel safe. The restaurant was not to hot - we mainly ate at a pizza restaurant up the road. Night club was good - some hot guys in there. The sauna is mixed and naked so if you are shy dont go in cos it's all visible in there. hope you enjoy your trip
