i got one issued when i bought over there. every year i bring it with me and keep it with my passport in case anybody asks to see it, but nobody ever does. what are they for and do i need it when i come into Bulgaria or is it to be kept with property deeds? i look forward to somebody that can give any advice
Thanks for that WFM. how often is that meant to be paid and where do you pay it and how is the amount owed calculated? sorry for all the questions but i didnt want to rack up big debts that i was unaware of.
If you own property in BG you have an annual tax for rubbish and a property tax - bills come out in the new year. You need to go to the local municipality office to pay the taxes. If you have your bill with all the reference numbers on etc you can pay through Epay.bg if you set an account up but it is easy for you or anyone else to pay the taxes at the municipal offices with your Bulstat number.
If your company was established before 2008 you may need to re-register. There is a bit of a push by the goverment to check through all the foriegn companies owning property here and there will be problems if your company has lapsed. It will require you to contact your lawyer for him/her to enquire if this is required, and to produce your bulstadt no. at the municipality to pay your local taxes.

I have just done it for two owners through a lawyer friend, they did not need to re-register, and their fees for 3 years were actually less than 100lv each
If you didn't purchase land, (ie if you purchased an apartment) then you may not have formed a company so the above may not apply to you.
It does apply to many though and the government keep extending the deadline for companies to re-register. I think its currently June 2011. The risk of not re-registering your company means that its assets (ie your property) may be reclaimed back.
We are currently going through re-registration as BG gov have extended the deadline for us to do so as we bought the land and the company owns the property as no foreigner can own property, It is costing ua allot of money to now re-register as it is now on a deadline and granted to people who ask for the extension.
If you don't own the land you dont need to have a company unless you are earning money from it then you will.
We have a house nr Borovets and now been there 4 years and we pay ...

We have a house nr Borovets and now been there 4 years and we pay at Somokov for our local taxes at a very small amount.
Water rates is now becoming more expensive....
I never use our bulstate card unless I am buying things for the house and I can claim this against our expenses.
