Hi Fred, your info on ski/boardhire/lift pass in resort of borovets is very interesting. Do you have any form of contact for them please? were they reliable? and how did you pay sterling or levs and how much? Also was the passes a tourist pass or bulgarian citizen?
Fred, you seem to have got yourself a cracking deal. I will be travelling to Bansko on Saturday, have you ever been, and if so, did you find a similar deal?
Sorry Gordon, never been to Bansko. Went to Pamps for first two years, then Borovets for the last three. Probably should try elsewhere but Boro is ideal for us!
Suggest you try Ellie - the fount of all knowledge on this discussion board. Perhaps she will see this link and reply?
Will,
Pass is a Tourist Pass on the usual basis, all over etc.
Paying in sterling, usual comments about unmarked/untorn notes, on the first morning. Another advantage is that we are getting the gear early, before the rush - particularly as in our case we are there at half-term week so it will be busy Hopefully we can be kitted out and on the slopes before the gondola queues.

I faxed an enquiry initially to Val, the Albena ski school owner and he phoned me back and was very helpful and co-operative. I am confident that he will be reliable and we will have the chance to check everything before we pay, rather than risk sending any payment beforehand.
We used the Albena Ski School two years ago but that time we felt we were ripped off by Inghams and paid £165 for the same package. (They would only sell BEGINNERS packs with the holiday, Intermediates had to pay the Inghams reps the morning after arrival and they wouldnt give us a price before we travelled)
Had a similar scenario last year with Thompsons but risked booking the beginners pack and it worked, we got what we wanted, but I understand most companies are clamping down this year so decided not to risk it.
The Albena Ski School is on the main street, opposite the Samakov & Ice Rink, so conveniently halfway between the Gondola and the Slopes opposite the Rila.
Vals fax number is 00359 7226 6696 and his mobile number is 00359 04877 6277
Dont forget the 2 hour time difference, speak slowly -although his English is good - and there is a slight delay.
As you will see from the other link to Gordon, I am endebted to Ellie for the initial information. I tried to contact the larger hotels, ski schools, tourist information, Borovets mafia etc with very little response and no help at all.
Obviously if I do have any problems I will report back when I get home.
Good Luck!
Fred
