BOROVETS 15TH DEC

Morning,

Bobby is up the top of the gondola now - at the Markudjik slopes. Whilst it looks very white on the webcams, the snow is not great. Only the nursery slopes has been pisted and there is only about 10cm on it. Marky 1 has more- he hasn't been any further than that - but that's because it hasn't been pisted. At the moment, they are not skiable (nursery slope maybe just) as the coverage is just not enough and there are no snow cannons up there to add to it.

The Yastrebets and Rila slopes are much better - they have the natual base and then additional snow from the cannons - so they do have about 30cm on them and will be skiable at the weekend if temps enable the cannons to be kept on.

There is more snow forecast so that could change the situation at the very top, but that's the way it is at the moment.

Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear, but just letting you know....

Hi,
Your posts are fantastic, much better than the dodgy weather forecast websites. Keep them coming please.

What depth of snow does a piste need so it can be skiied after being pisted?

re: BOROVETS 15TH DEC

Hi

I'm certainly no expert but just spoken to Bobby and he said 5 to 10cm compacted can be fine, but it depends on the temperature - eg: if it's warm, it will turn to slush and won't be skiable.

He thinks that if there is more snow before the weekend arrivals, they can open the Markudjik area, but without more snow, it will be a struggle especially as although it's cold it is sunny up there today.

re: BOROVETS 15TH DEC

Thanks once again for the up to the minute reports. I'm sure I'm not alone in keeping a regular check on conditions, in the hope that conditions will be ok for when I get there (26/12), and your reports seem by far the best (and honest) available. Please keep them coming... and heres to hoping for more positive news! Cheers, Jim.

re: BOROVETS 15TH DEC

Hi,
Just spent over an hour watching piste bashers working on the Borosport cams, getting very excited seeing some snow.

Keep the excellent reports coming you two, thanks, Tom.
