17 March - too late?

Thinking of making a trip to Bansko for a week on 17th March.

Anyone been that late and can advise on snow coverage (looks like it should be OK) and whether things are shutting down in town - restaurants, bars, etc.

Also, is it quiet (good for lifts) but too quiet (few beers)?

Thanks

re: 17 March - too late?

Was thinking about heading out on 17th as well for another week (or maybe even later, 1st April for a week!).

Anyone been as late as those before? i did 13th March for a week in 2010, and by the end of the week the melted snow was pouring down the roads. Think the snowfall this year has generally been better though, so maybe a longer season than previously.

I went last year for the first weekend in April. The base was nothing like it is currently and it was still decent, particularly up high. All 3 resorts will be good well through Easter this year looking at long range forecasts. Go for it.

Oh and in Bansko it was busy enough in the bars but quiet enough for new queues on Gondola.

Should be fine. In fact could well be the best time to go. No waiting at the gondola or for lifts and usually it's either sunshine or powder in march so can't lose either way. Go for it.

Thanks.

Just what I wanted to hear - no queues but still some Booze fun to be had.

re: 17 March - too late?

Few years back went on 15th March, amazing conditions, even had a blue bird day, great to wander into town in t shirts for early drink. Got to get up first thing to enjoy conditions then relax for a late lunch and head home before it gets too slushy but ski road was open, no snow in town and fab sunshine every day. I love mid March ski/snowboard holidays.

Mid March is fine go for it!
Further into end of that month and into April things get not logical(financially logical) and unpredictable.
Part of the buzz : look day or two before your decided date, check with locals for solid information without the vested posted info, look your other options as places and gamble. Smile
