1st Time in Borovets

Hi, we're going to Borovets in January for the first time, we're extremely inexperienced at skiing and have booked lessons for when we're there. We're staying at the Rila and I've heard stories about lot's of rooms getting broken into and prostitutes hanging round the whole hotel, is it as bad as I've heard? Also is there anywhere to go and have a relaxing quiet drink rather than a techno mad pub or club, don't get me wrong I like a good drink, but after a hard days skiing all I'll ...

Use the safety deposit boxes for valuables - that's what they are there for. Rooms don't tend to get broken into - not any more, but the maid might look through your stuff so don't take all the designer labels - you won't need them anyway.

There is a nightclub in the basement so yet, there will be people hanging around, but you get that near any nightclub, anywhere in the world.

Rila is right opposite the slopes so nice and close to the skiing go into any of the bars for a drink afterwards - White Magic has a good reputation and you can print off your discount voucher in advance from this site. Follow the Borovets link

I'll be in Borovets in Feb so leave some snow for me.

re: 1st Time in Borovets

You are no more at risk in Bulgaria than in any other country you may visit. I have left money out all week in my hotel room and it was not touched. As Judith says use common sense as you would with any country you visit. As for prostitutes well I think you will be safe as they tend to go for male customers!!!! Wink You leave them alone and they will leave you alone Very Happy

We haven't actually stayed in the Rila but if you use the deposit boxes for your money, passports etc everything will be safe I'm sure.

We've not had trouble with the maids - if you keep your room fairly tidy they should have no need to touch any of your things. We found they made the beds etc if you didn't but we tended to do these things fr ourselves.

As for the bars and restaurants. The majority are small and friendly. We enjoy the Avalanche on the slope opposite the ...

Have fun

re: 1st Time in Borovets

Glad to hear somebody else\'s comments about first timers.

I go there for the first time on Boxing day, and have heard alsorts of stories, the main one of concern is the food, has anybody on this board had problems with food poisoning?? or is it just too much drink!!

Oh, and hope the snow ghets better than the 13th November!! its grass at the bottom of the slopes!!

Any boarders out there, it would be usefull to know what the instructors are like and whether it is mainly skiing ...
