Heading to Pamps last Sunday Jan. 21st. I travelled with not a little trepidation. As a first-timer thoughts went through my head like, will there be snow, will I break a leg, will I, as one nearer to sixty than sixteen, enjoy the skiing lark ?

Yes it did snow but we had to wait until Thursday and that was after the previous day being a total wipe-out with high wind and rain. Thankfully, I managed to avoid a broken leg in spite of the icy and grassy conditions on Monday and Tuesday. Did I enjoy the experience? You bet I did and the only regret I had was that I didn't try skiing sooner.
The only down side was at the ski school where I was slotted into a group that had started their class the previous day. The consequence of this was that the instructor expected me to do things I had not received tuition in. On Thursday morning he decided to move to a green slope but I refused to budge and spent the last three days earwiging and watching other instructors putting their pupils through their paces. By Saturday morning I was skiing and, thanks to the fact that nearly everybody else was gone home, I spent the day going up and down a very quiet slope. That evening I went back to the hotel knackered but proud that I had cracked it and had'nt hit the deck once. So thank you to the unwitting instructor's who coached me and gave me a reason to say I'll be back skiing next year.
Prior to going I kept a daily watch on this discussion page so to PP and all the subscriber's I'd like to say a big thank you for all your knowledge and advice. In return I'd like to offer my own piece of advice - no not on skiing but on food. The question of where to eat is often asked well a place that I would highly reccommend is Hotel St. Martin in Chapelara. It's a few miles down the road from Pamporova but I can tell you that it is well worth the trip for food, service and value. The Italian in the Perlik is also one to put on your list.
PP you said I would enjoy the experience, boy I surely did and I'll be going back for more - dispite my age and the jibes about acting it. You only live once, so try skiing!
