ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP PLAN!

Is this feasible?

We have a car hired... I'm thinking that if all the doom saying comes true and Bansko is not top notch - I'm seeing a drive to Borovets and/or Pamporovo... is this doable?
Anyone done the drive between these resorts? Any ideas how long it takes?

On a going out this Monday related note... New Years Eve in Bulgaria is great - last year in Bansko old town in one of the Mehenas we had a ton of food and all you can drink - was brilliant Booze.

Although I STRONGLY recommend you go and book asap on arrival - we hit loads of Mehenas to find a table that we could be squeezed into - was like dinner out with the Eastern Euro Mafia - genius! Still off on a slight tangent there...

The Question - how long to drive between the ski resorts? Bansko to somewhere else if bansko doesn't fully open / there is little snow.

Thanks. Gav

Did the trip from Bansko to Pamporovo in 2006, hugging the boarder road between Bulgaria and Greece it took us just about 3 hours.

Borovets to Bansko is a pretty easy drive, over an hour. Spoke to someone last week who said conditions weren't great there but it's been snowing here in Borovets really heavily so i'm sure ther're getting some there too!

You can have a look at domino.bg there you can find online maps.
You have to go by car to main road from Athens/Kavala to Sofia/Vidin and leaf this at Dupnitza and from therte over Samokov to Borovez, I'm not sure but I think you will need more then and hour may be 1,5 to 2 hours.

Great sight will be the Rila monastary, it is sign out, just a half hour more right but unforgetable and the greatest Unesco world heritage in my eyes in BG if the snow was fallen.

Boro to Bansko, 1 hour 40 mins on a clear road, difficult now with the weather, but with care still under 2 hours.
Agree with Pete, around 3 hours Bansko to Pamps but again, the road is not great, and the weather may be against you going on the border road, could consider return to Sofia and out on the Plovdiv road to Pamps but also could consider via Samakov, could not comment on time but likely in excess of 4 hours...

Boro seems to have the snow at the moment, but nature has a funny way of evening the balance, brace yourselves for some serious snowfall in the Razlog valley.
