ATM's

Just a word of warning. There appears to be a problem when using ATM machines with UK Bank Cards.

Several banks are refusing the cards, and displaying "card not valid in this terminal" even though they have accepted the cards in the past.

This problem has been going on for a couple of weeks, and I can not understand why.

At Pamps none of the ATM's worked over the last week, although we found 3 in town. If your going to Pamporovo take £'s with you or take money out at 'Alaska' shop in town with your credit card.

I had the "card not valid in this terminal" for my maestro and mastercard at the ATM outside the RILA. I ahppened to bump into Kelly (Crystal Rep) Who directed to use the one inside the Flora, used it a couple of times without problem. Checked statement this morning and even with the cash handling fee got better rate than those changing cash in resort.

Be careful over the new year becuase the ATMs run out of money. Hotels charge 6percent to change using a debit card

Got back from bansko this am, we had the same trouble there as did every tourist in town. Between us we had five cards luckily one worked it was a Cirrus card. Visa or master cards did not work in any of the many machines we tried.

We had similar problems in Bansko - UK cards not working, however my aussie one worked fine. we found two ATMS that worked for everyone though. one as you walk downhill on the main drag past the restaurants, when you get to the main square turn left, its just a few shops down there on the left. Or turn right and head down a full block and it is a green ATM on the corner.
