Coming back to Bulgaria in March for 3rd year running but going to book Andorra for Feb, can anyone recommend the best family resort, would it be Arinsal or Soldeu. any tips on hotels, slopes, costs, area etc would be appreciated.
I don't know if this forum is the best for anything other than Bulgaria. However, I use this forum for all my skiing when I'm not skiing in Bansko and find it brilliant:
i like soldeu, arinsal has limited skiing. pas is too busy. We have been there 2 seasons in a row and are going back this season in march. use a hotel near the slopes, we use himalaia. the bus runs once an hour and is a pain in the ass when it is late.
i went to arinsal in january skiing was good if you get feed up in arinsal there is a gondola at the top to take you to pal which is covered on your ski pass.we stayed in the hotel princesa parc its 100 metres from the ski lift [ you fall out the front door and your there]
No charm or beauty within the resort. The most rediclous and dis- organised ski school and storage facilities I have ever seen in 20 years of skiing, and an instructor who could not speak English and had no interest in his group whatsoever.
Add to that a zero nightlife and you have Soldeu.
I wouldn't go back even if it was just £50 all in.
John, I recommend El Tarter as opposed to Soldeu as it is quieter for families. Soldeu is nice but can be rowdy at times. We stay in El Tarter and catch the bus up to Soldeu in the evening and grab a cab back at the end of the night. That way we get to enjoy the more abundant night life of Soldeu and then return to El Tarter knowing that it's unlikely drunks will be walking down the main street at 4.00am waking us up.
Don't forget that the cost of the ski bus between the resorts is ...

there has never been any prolemss with noise in the centre. We stayed with clubs all around us and i slept fine. The village may have not a great deal of 'charm', but i can assure you the ski/snowboard school now is brilliant. It has all changed since the resorts were linked together. The lessons were to an excellent standard and the instructors were very good!
Have been going there more or less each year since 1993 and the area just keeps getting better and better. Cross fingers for Bansko/Dobrinishte/Razlog doing the same during the next decade!
BTW... The ski school in Grand Valira (includes Soldeu/El Tarte etc) is one of the best in Europe and approximately 90% speak English as their first language. Sorry to hear of your experience Pete... think you got the bad apple
