Anybody bought property in Bulgaria?

Has anybody out there bought property in any of the ski resorts?
I know that you must set up your own company to buy if land is included, but don't know much else.
Are the Estate agents advertising true prices on the internet, or are they out to rip off foriegn investors?
What are the ongoing costs of owning a house:
Water rates
Electricity
Insurance
Council charges etc.

All i can tell you is that electricity is around £143 per year. building tax around 25 leva per year. water around £26 per year, gas £72 per year and rubbish colletion is about 135 leva per year.
A good guide to look at is by red guides and its called buying a property in eastern europe 2005 and u can buy it in WH Smiths.

Look on website www.mybulgaria.info it has a forum for people interested in Bulgaria and for buying property I have found it very useful. As we have only just bought our apartment not sure how much it will cost to run yearly but council tax, insurance, water rates seem cheap. Electricity is probably the most expensive but if you are buying an apartment this shouldn't be too much. As we have only just bought our apartment not sure how much it will cost to run yearly but council tax, insurance, water rates seem cheap. Electricity is probably the most expensive but if you are buying an apartment this shouldn't be too much. If buying a house people seem to favour wood burning stoves that do hot water as well as wood is the cheapest form of heating - most of the locals use it. For an apartment you shouldn't need to register a company but will with a house with land. Take into consideration costs such as property management and cleaning services, end of year tax return and accountant fees if you have bought it through a company. Be cautious as you would in England buying property and employ an independant solicitor to handle the purchase. This will cost approximately 1% of the cost of your property but would be well worth it for peace of mind. The prices on the websites are usually the price involved but usually there are extras for example some do not include bathroom fittings or kitchens. Flooring type extra.

Good luck

re: Anybody bought property in Bulgaria?

We've had our house 40km from Borovets for 8 months now, costs are as follows -

£1700 to set up company bank account but you can withdraw after 30 days
£800 legal fees, taxes, notary etc
Running costs for water, electricity and cable TV are approx £20 per month
House and contents insurabce is £180 per year
Furnish the whole house £1500

That's about it I think
