Hi Sam, I learnt in Borovets 10 years ago, not much had changed when we were there 2 weeks ago.

We started on the Green slope not far from the hotels. You wont be using lifts for at least a couple of days so be prepared for a bit of walking up and down the slopes. This is a good thing in Boarding as you will spend a lot of time sliding on your heel or toe edge down the slope, and a lot of time led on the ground laughing!! Whereas with skiing you will get from the top to the bottom pretty soon after learning you wont with boarding. The instructors will be able to pick a quieter spot further up the slope where you can get some practice. Once you have sort of got that sorted you can move over to the bottom of the Blue slope. As you look on the Webcam at the bottom of the Rila there is a large area to the right of that where it is green at the bottom and slight blue at the top. There were loads of boarders practicing on here.

On the third day we moved over to the bottom of the red (the slope you can see on the Rila webcam) and we practised turns on there.

So in my opinion you will be fine, I've not checked if they have had the cannons on this week but if they can get them on, then the green slope at the bottom is great to learn on as it makes it very soft.

Hope this helps

Sam/Martin

Another point to note is you will be totally shattered after your lessons. 2 hours of lessons per day on a board really takes it out of you. You will be using muscles you haven't used before going down the slope so will feel the burn in your legs. Then you gotta take your board off and walk all the way back up again and come back down.

Your lesson will probably start at 10 and finish at 12 when you will have lunch. You are then expected to practice for a while ready for ...

Your lesson will probably start at 10 and finish at 12 when you will have lunch. You are then expected to practice for a while ready for the next day but you will be tired so if you manage to do another hour you will be doing well. That takes you to 2ish maybe 2:30. Doing that for 3 days you wouldnt move from the slopes I mentioned above even if everything was open. Once you have finished lessons after 3 days you will still want to practice what you have learnt for probably the 4th day anyway.
On the 5th your legs will be dead so Booze all that day. Then enjoy your last day exploring ready for next year
