It has been 3 almost 4 weeks since I returned from Bankso, but I wanted to let you all know how excellent the medical staff were. I unfortunately had an accident when I was on holiday (day 4 though so it was not that bad!) I was minding my own business in a straight line on the flatter section, just outside the restaurants that are up from the gondla, when someone on skis, travelling far to fast for the area I was in, mowed me down! It has been 3 almost 4 weeks since I returned from Bankso, but I wanted to let you all know how excellent the medical staff were. I unfortunately had an accident when I was on holiday (day 4 though so it was not that bad!) I was minding my own business in a straight line on the flatter section, just outside the restaurants that are up from the gondla, when someone on skis, travelling far to fast for the area I was in, mowed me down! AND did not think to stop! I had dislocated and fractures the ball joint of my left shoulder and was in an incredible amount of pain! A very nice Bulgarian man stopped to help me, along with a greek Doctor who was on holiday. Someone went to get me medical help and the skidoo was there to collect me very quickly. I was taken to the top of the gondola, given a painkiller and sent on the gondola down….feeling EVERY pole in agony! However once I got to the bottom of the gondola it was stopped to let me get off and a member of staff took my board for me and took me to the medical centre. Although there was a clear language barrier the staff were excellent, I had to have x-rays, a local aesthetic but my shoulder muscles were to strong to get the bone back in place so they gave me a general aesthetic. There was no rush for my insurance documents but I was even more delighted to discover that my lift pass covered me for one full visit to the medical centre and that all of my treatment was included in this and I did not part with a penny!
We did really enjoy our time in Bansko and would go back, its just a shame that there were a few ‘idiots’ on the slopes going far to fast in a crowded area and that one of them has put me in a 12-14 week recover programme.
Just remember when you are on the slopes that there are others on holiday too, I am a competent boarder and was in no was an instigating factor in my accident but I find my self at home unable to drive, only just able to work and will not be able to work with my horses for 12 weeks!
