I have been checking the site for the last 12 months and have decided this season after hearing great things to try skiing Bulgaria instead of France. There are 6 of us (all guys in 20's), some intermediates some beginers looking to travel 2nd/3rd week Jan. However we have a dilema....Bansko or Borovets??? Both look good to me but could do with a little inside information!!
Borovets is a small purpose built resort, mostly centred around the small street at the foot of one of the slopes. There are also hotels a little further out in the surrounding area. The resort offers good skiing and excellent nightlife.
Bansko is a actually a town and not a purpose built resort. The area offers excellent skiing with the lifts and hire equipment being installed only 3 years ago. Bansko offers a more varied apres ski than Borovets, but not centralised as in Borovets, so ...

Bansko offers a more varied apres ski than Borovets, but not centralised as in Borovets, so it may seem not as lively, even though it offers much more. You are just as likely to stumble across locals on an evening out, whereas in Borovets you will be only be enjoying the company of fellow tourists.
Hi Julia,
bit of a mix to be honest some intermediates and some beginners, none of us amazing were just out for the fun. we will have a few in ski school!
i know some say that different resorts are better for different levels
personly with my female opinion (and never been to bansko) i love boro with the slopes right on the doorstep and the fantastic night life is suits me to a tee
i find boro suits the needs of myself and my family for the skill levels we are all at and suits us in the eves to and we do mix with the locals as well as fellow tourists
but whichever you go to boro or bansko you will have a great time the place is great, ...

but whichever you go to boro or bansko you will have a great time the place is great, it is cheaper than france
we stay at the rila on boro, its basic but good and i like it and to me a hotel is where we sleep when we finally leave the bar and clubs to crash for couple hours before get back on the slopes
Bansko for me every time. I was there in Feb and loved it. There is an extensive ski area which is an Intermediates paradise and I believe beats Borovets although in fairness I haven't been there. The town is real with loads of lovely restaurants called Mehanas. There are bars and night clubs but I would think apres ski is a bit lower key than Boro. It depends which is more important I would think. Looking at your age group you may find Bansko a little quiet but the skiing would be ...
Hi

Having visited both resorts i would recommend Borovets to the younger generation, they sounded like they were having loads of fun right through the night. Terrific skiing too.
I found Bansko more for the mature end of the market, I think Andy wouldnt enjoy it there as much as he would Borovets.
thanks for your help guys, can you recommend a particular travel agent to book through that does good deals on flight/accom + ski packs? Still havent decided if its Bansko or Boro yet, but we are 6 young guys who will be having a few late nights so Boro is just edging it for me. Will have to show them the posts and make a joint decision!!!
