Back From Tignes

Well - the skiing was fantastic, but the prices were just crazy. Don't let anybody tell you that Bulgaria is dear!

Bowl of chips up the mountain = £7.00
Burger, Chips and a little relish = £15.00
Chocolate with brandy = £11.00

Needless to say we didn't spend too much time in the mountain lodges and nor did many others.

Needless to say we didn't spend too much time in the mountain lodges and nor did many others.

We also skied Val d'Isère which was awsome, but unfortunately we were also there when an avalanche killed 4 people, including one British skier whilst skiing with an instructor off piste. It stunned the whole resort as you can imagine and we certainly made sure we stuck to the main slopes for our remaining days there.

Returning home and Chambery Airport was an absolute disaster. About 1,500 people trying to check-in at the same time for 5 flights in a lounge that would have been packed if it had just 300 people in it. We queued for over an hour to check in and our flight was called for boarding with about 100 passengers still trying to check-in. Total chaos!

So did I enjoy it? YES!
But I am looking forward to Pamporovo even more on Feb 12th for meeting quality people and paying sensible prices. Cheers Cheers

Pete, we were at Chambery airport a few year ago (after courchevel) and it was the same- total chaos in trying to check in-
we enjoyed the skiing- excellent pistes , but again the price of eating out was hellish! we were self catering but even a packet of walkers crisps was nearly £3!- not to mention a £5 a pint!
We have been to Bulgaria since! Very Happy

Did you get to ski? Prices are a bit steep, £11 for a brandy and hot chocolate!!!!! bet you only had one of them.

As for the chaos at the airport, plodiv was that bad last time I was there. You would think the holiday companys would stagger their flights a bit. we fligh out to turin next week and all the flights leave the UK at the same time, not a problem as they are spread out across the country but all leave to come back at the same time, so everyone will be at turin at the same time ...

re: Back From Tignes

The resorts are up the mountain, and prices reflect the fact that you can go nowhere else... Beer in crates bought up from Bourge St Maurice can work out cheaper, as can wine, cheese, bread etc but even down there is a bit pricey...
Bite the bullet as we did last season, share 2 basic pizzas and 4 beers, works out at around 100 Euro. This was in Lavachet, the cheaper of the 3 villages in Tignes, if memory serves, the `Alpina' restaurant opposite the Aeroski gondola...
