Back and Happy

Back last night, having been out to Boro with a group of parents and adults for race training and to take part in the FIS races on monday and tuesday.
Unfortunately this year we had a small team for the 11/12 and 13/14 yr old comp as the date had been moved to when most of our kids here are doing exams, this is not the fault of BG this is the fault of the FIS who for some reason thought it would be a good idea to tag the races onto the end of the national holidays, so that 'training day' ...
Back last night, having been out to Boro with a group of parents and adults for race training and to take part in the FIS races on monday and tuesday.
Unfortunately this year we had a small team for the 11/12 and 13/14 yr old comp as the date had been moved to when most of our kids here are doing exams, this is not the fault of BG this is the fault of the FIS who for some reason thought it would be a good idea to tag the races onto the end of the national holidays, so that 'training day' was on sunday with thousands of locals present, what a fantastic idea!!! also this meant that the competition for the 10 and unders was cancelled.
apart from that cock up, the 10 days were fantastic, we proved that parents cant keep up with their kids!! on of our girls came 13th in the slalom (bear in mind this was against the national teams from BG/greece/lebanon/croatia/siberia (who were very well behaved in the chalet credit to them they cleaned it up as well)/latvia/montenegro/romania , one of the best if not the best 12 yr olds in the uk.
we trained with Chamkoria Race Club, which is just fantastic for the kids as apparently nearly half the club are now in one of the national squads.
we started as early as 7.45am on the slopes to get the best of the snow early on and had a mixture of patchy slushy stuff early on to stupid cold (windchill -37 apparently) on the tuesday. we had to use 'space blankets' to keep the kids warm.

highlights were without doubt the 'lockin' what a blast!!!! ok the head to head with the pistebasher on the path just above the fon fon was a bit exciting Cool but overall 10/10 from the kids. Iceskating in samokov was a hit as was the usual bulgarian night!!

who knows where we go in the future, but hopefully we will have a 'race camp' in conjunction with Chamkoria next season at prices a lot less than the ones on offer at the moment!

What Borovets offers to us (when theres snow ) is training in challenging conditions, as when we went to sauxe the pistes are too wide and too perfectly groomed and dont test the athletes.

Thanks to Bobby and Karen for the 'base' and the booze, thanks to Gerry for trying to find the purse, and thanks to all who moved out the way when the kids came tearing through!! Booze Booze Wink
