Back form the rila

I have just returned form a great weeks boarding in the Rila in boro. Great snow all week, although i feel for those there at the min, the place desperately needs a dump of snow, the runs and resort were VERY icy on fri/sat. So fingers crossed!!

The rila is a great hotel, breakfast was ok - sick to the cereal and bread as the cooked option looked pretty poor, but lots of other things available. Dinnr was better than expected, a good choice every night, with some really exotic food, ...

The rila is a great hotel, breakfast was ok - sick to the cereal and bread as the cooked option looked pretty poor, but lots of other things available. Dinnr was better than expected, a good choice every night, with some really exotic food, stuffed peppers, stuffed vine leaves, kebabs... oh and chips! However go in with an open mind, the food is very random. On the first nite one of the dishes was fried eggs on spinach?? but on the whole much better than people have been making out!

Not sure if it was the food at the rila - or in resort, but at least half my board class were ill whilst away. Apparently a lot of bars serve up bad meat on a fri/sat as they know guests are returning home, so be warned!!

Another thing to watch is change given at bars.. in the rila nightclub i brought a round that came to 14lv, paid with a 20. When the lady went to give me my change i said "thank you" WHICH SHE TOOK TO MEAN, KEEP THE CHANGE!?!?! This happens throughout the resort, and by the end of the week really annoyed me, they were expecting tips of around 40% I am a waiter so do tip, but these levels are crazy, and it should be earned not expected.

But dont worry its not all bad, there were very few q's for the lifts, and id strongly recommend getting on the 4 below the gondola mid station, great run ... very quiet all day!

The staff in the ski depot's were very friendly and polite and extremely good at there jobs.

The learn to board package was great value, and our instrucor Mike offered us extra lessons at 20Lv a day, well worth while. He is amazing, if you can get in his group your onto a winner, very patient, extremely knowledgeable, funny and speaks gret english. By the middle of the week, we were going off piste and finding some real powder!!!

Eating out id recomend the Hot Spot nextdoor to franco's, and franco's itself do great pizzas and cocktails.

Anyone who is off will certainly enjoy it in boro. And if ur board instrucor is Mike say hi from Ed and Lynsey!!

Any ?'s just ask
