Back from Bansko

Just got back from bansko which we have been to three times this year and thought I would write up a quick report.

It was very warm in the town for most of the week, in fact so warm the kempinski had people ouside sunbathing one day! We had some snow showers early in the week which made for good conditions at the top. The mild weather has left the nursery slopes very bare and after 12.30ish the lower slopes are very slushy. It was very warm in the town for most of the week, in fact so warm the kempinski had people ouside sunbathing one day! We had some snow showers early in the week which made for good conditions at the top. The mild weather has left the nursery slopes very bare and after 12.30ish the lower slopes are very slushy. We had great ski but was on the mountain as soon as gondola was open at 8.30 and finished by lunch. If i was a learner I would be very disapointed and I do not understand why they have not tried to keep the nursery area in better condition? I know that snow cannons can only work at below freezing but it is below freezing at night?

Ok so on to Bansko. I am one of those people that like what I get from Bansko. No glamour, no pretence, decent reasonably priced food and as much apres-ski as you want. But there is a lot of building work, some stray dogs and poor pavements so you need to understand what you get and what you dont else you would be dissapointed.

If you want good value i would urge people to book themselves, i have used easyjet and wizzair and there are plenty of cheap reasonable apartments to rent. I have also previously stayed at the Kempinski for only 120 euro a night and that was for a five star hotel. So plenty of choice.

You get good mahanas and poor ones. The best we have found is the barakova. Just of the first square near the chuch. We had great food (two course) and good house wine for roughly £20 for the two of us. At weekends most tables will be booked by in the know bulgarians.

A new hotel the emarald has just opened not far from kempinski and friendly bar and is good for massages. Cheaper than kempinski at about £20 for 45mins. It would be double in UK. Next to the emerald is the Kandahar aprtments and Harrys Bar has just opened under these apartments. It has been done out really nicely.

All in all we have had a another really good ski holiday in bansko. But hopefully, hopefully the town and indeed the tourist industry will take note of the negative comments that the town and country receive. Finish the developments, put in new roads and pavements and give the resort chance and time to mature.

Its not italy or france but then again I dont think its pretending to be.
