Back from Bansko

Got back from Bansko early hours of Sunday morning after plane delay on the way home so just thought i would post my findings.

Travelled with Nielson using Thomas Cook airlines and found both pretty good. We stayed (19 of us in total) in the Hotel Perun and we all enjoyed our stay. Excellent facilities with lovely pools, clean spacious rooms and a nice bar area with open fire.

I quite enjoyed the food although could have been a little warmer at times but some of the teens in our group weren't so keen. Just a little word or warning regarding the steam room in the hotel, one of our party got a nasty burn on her leg from a steam vent which made her miss 3 days skiing. There was a wooden cover over the vent but this didn't stop the burn. The minibus transfers to and from the slopes were very regular if you didn't want to walk so the hotel ski store worked well.
We visited the Irish bar a number of times for food and drink and were very impressed, good quality and reasonable prices. JJ Murphys was also a popular watering hole.
Skiing conditions were generally very good, sometimes a little icy in places. The ski road was very popular with the less experienced in our group providing a long run that they were comfortable with. Plenty of variety for the better skiers also, Tomba a decent challenge but a little icy. Found the food prices a little expensive on the slopes compared with previous trips to Pamps and preferred the smaller more friendly eateries in Pamps. Cheap place to eat down the ski road on the left just as you get to the second bridge, just make sure you don't need to use the toilet!!!
As a guide for those who ask regarding spending money, for myself, girlfriend and daughter, we spent £350 for the week including eating on the slopes every day, 3 evening meals in the Irish Bar, other apres-ski snacks in the hotel bar and the obligatory alcohol consumption.
Overall we had a great holiday and was interesting to compare to Pamps. The range of skiing is obviously better and more challenging for the more experienced, the hotel Perun was excellent with very good facilities but the town due to its size didn't have the charm and friendliness of Pamps. Everyone said they would be happy to return next year so i am sure we will be back in Bulgaria somewhere.

Forgot to comment on the subject of queues. Basically we didn't have any problems at all. We caught the gondola at a variety of times and i think 15 minutes was the worst wait we had on Saturday when the slopes were busy and we were a bit later out of the hotel. Certainly nothing that would put us off returning.

Hi Richard. Glad you had a great time. I can definately say avoid using the toilet at the small shack off the ski road!!! Bansko was great but I still think Pamps has won my heart for many reasons! Just a shame the snow for the past few years been a worry. Who knows where our party will choose for next year. Wink Wink Wink

Great report, thanks. Me and my husband are going on Saturday 6 Feb. Not sure where we are staying as its allocated on arrival. We went to Pamps at New Year. Last time we went to Bansko was 6 years ago but I suppose its changed a bit.
