Back from Bansko

Arrived back from Bansko in the small hours of Sunday and what with work and the fact that I have a broken toe (I skied on it for a week without knowing - ooww) have only just had the chance to post.
Snow conditions were excellent, the best I have ever skied on, and managed to do the Tomba, my first black ever!!
Stayed at the Emerald which was perfectly adequate, the room was excellent and near to the Gondola.

Stayed at the Emerald which was perfectly adequate, the room was excellent and near to the Gondola.
Enjoyed eating in the old town, went to the Mehana at the bottom left of the square with the tables outside and the water wheel inside. I've eaten here before and ity is my favourite.
Changed money at the First Investment Bank (2.20 exhange rate) in the Strazhite Hotel complex opposite the Lion Pub and also used the cashpoint at the Gondola.
Enjoyed eating on the slopes. Where else could you get a substantial hot meal and drink for less than a tenner?
The only problems were:
(1) the Gondola queues. In the past I have got to the Gondola before 8:45 and walked straight on. This year I got there at 8:20 and it took an hour to get to the top. My only suggestion is to take you skiis and boots to your hotel and don;t leave them in the ski depot as they only open at 8:30. Get to the gondola as early as you possibly can. Apparently some hotels are bussing people up the ski road to the top gondola station ebcause the queues are so long.
(2) Being assigned a Ulen ski instructor. If we all sat down together for an eternity we could not possibly come up with a worse system. We were waiting aorung for 1 and a half hours on the first day which was a lot after the queues for the gondola to get up there. My son (aged Cool who did the top blues last year was assigned to a group that started off on the kindergarten slopes. We had to argue for an entire lunchy time to get him moved up. Other people were also assigned to groups way below their level. If this happens to you persevere in arguing with the instructors. They have their safety concerns (fair enough) but you are paying a lot to learn something.

How was the Emerald? Going on Saturday and staying there too. Is there any disruption from the building across the road? Only curious because Inghams keep sending me letters about the building work.
Cheers

Rach, we walked past the Emerald, which looks very nice and maybe due to the weather conditions we didn't see any obvious building works going on but I'm sure others will have better information, your in for great snow, have a fab holiday.

The Emerald was fine. The room was excellent, it was quiet, the bar (not the lounge bar) shows live football and Rosy, Georgina and Peter were very hospitable. The spa was a bit on the small side with a small pool. Evening meals were good, although I thought a limited choice for breakfast.
Have stayed in the Perun before and preferred the Perun but the Emerald is a lot closer to the Gondola.

No problem from the building works. I came back from skiing and they were working but never heard anythng in the hotel or was inconvenienced by it in any way.
