Back from Bansko

Well I'd just like to say what a brilliant time I had in Bansko and would like to single out a couple of folks who helped make it a good week.

There were three of us in Bansko last week, from Saturday to Saturday. Myself and Scott are a beginner boarder and skier respectively, whilst Jo is a much more experienced boarder.

There were three of us in Bansko last week, from Saturday to Saturday. Myself and Scott are a beginner boarder and skier respectively, whilst Jo is a much more experienced boarder.

In Bansko itself, I found the townsfolk to be helpful, polite and friendly. From reading the comments on this site I'd been forewarned that the local Bulgarians could be a bit dour, but quite frankly, I never experienced this at all. We ate out every night, trying different places and were never dissapointed with a meal once. I really enjoyed the traditional Bulgarian dishes, whilst my mate Scott, who's a bit more conservative in his eating habits, never failed to find a simpler dish to enjoy.

On the slopes I had a great time. I stuck to the Blue runs, only nervously poking the nose of my board down one of the Red's towards the end of the week. Scott really enjoyed the nursery slopes and in particular the 'snow road', whilst Jo spent the week honing her boarding techniques on the Red and Black runs. None of us came away disappointed.

If I had any wee complaints it would be this. What is it with folk hooning down the Blue runs at Warp 9? If they are such great Skiers / Boarders, shouldn't they be on the Reds and Blacks?

Oh and what is it with the 'life or death' need to get in front of me in the queue for the Gondola or chair lifts? How do you say 'Take a chill pill man' in Russian? Cool

Finally, I'd like to single out a couple of great guys who went above and beyond the call of duty to make us feel welcome and to help us out when in need. Steve C provided a superbly reliable, and helpfully informative, transfer service between Sofia and Bansko. Thank you sir. John Sutton (I think) at Bansko Tourist Information provided a wonderfully helpful service when my mate Scott, forever now to be referred to as 'That Spoon', managed to lose his passport within minutes of setting foot in Bansko. John and Steve, you're both complete Stars. Scott, if you're reading this, you're a complete Spoon Wink

Finally, a big thanks to Bansko and my mates for helping me kick off the start of my 40th birthday celebrations. Although I won't see my 40th ever again Crying I've got a sneaky suspicion that I might be back in Bansko some time in the future.

Cheers

Craig
