Back from Boro

Read Ians report, very detailed and on the button. Some advice for those that have been before. The runs were getting quite exciting by friday but the extra snow for saturday helped, the mist didnt! Georges Igloo is back up and running this year, and still provides excellant watering facilities! The new 4 man lifts are a def yes specially the one replacing the dodgy t bar. The gondola queues were horrible so heres a tip, if youve been before, or are a capable skier, and cant be bothered to ...

Georges Igloo is back up and running this year, and still provides excellant watering facilities! The new 4 man lifts are a def yes specially the one replacing the dodgy t bar. The gondola queues were horrible so heres a tip, if youve been before, or are a capable skier, and cant be bothered to get up at silly times. Get one of the horse/carts, costs 20lev (takes upto 5 people) and take it to the yastrebets 4 man lift, this takes you to above the middle station of the gondola, and will give you a few hours on quiet and well groomed pistes, then around lunch time you can take the gondola from the middle station to the top, saves a lot of queueing !!!!!!! and the slopes were great.
Other comments, well not much has cahnged apart from there being more erotic/go-go dancing bars around, but their effect is minimal, also some real estate agents have sprung up, a la costas, PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL THEY DONT HAVE ALL THE PROPERTIES THEY SAY THEY HAVE AND SOME ARE NOT EXACTLY BONA FIDE !!!!!!!! any one got any queries feel free to ask

re: Back from Boro

Glad to hear that you had a great time.
Question I have , the new four man lift that replaced the single does it stop at the same place as it did before or does it go further on . The reason I ask, if you look at the new pista map on Balkan holidays it shows it going onto another peak but doesn't show any runs !! anyway I'll find out soon enough 12 nights to go

re: Back from Boro

Frank, that map is a little fanciful, its the planned runs for 2006. The four man stops more or less the same place as the one man, you can if you wish then get a lift in a converted piste basher over to the 'golden bowl' its actually one of the old hunting lodges ,and ski back on the road, so its a green/blue run. Eventually its to be opened up aspart of the grand plan for the area

re: Back from Boro

Is the Yastrebets 4 man chair lift new? When we were there last year the only lift by the Yastrebets hotel was a one man drag. Is the 4 man somewhere else?

re: Back from Boro

ellie, dont go there!! we have inadvertantly ended up with a piece of real prime real estate, which is obviously drawing a lot of attention from those that like to think they own the place, if you get what i mean!! if the expanded plan goes ahead well literally role out of bed on to the lift!! fingers crossed still a lot more paperwork to do and architects to talk to and builders etc etc etc

Fraser & Sarah,
Pleased to see you had a good holliday as well, the "icy bits" added to the thrill early in the week dont you think!
but as a first timer to Boro I cant thank this site enough for all the help they gave me taking two small kids into the unknown!
I am hoping to get back later in the season, if not next year, met a lot of new people and made good friends, the kids really enjoyed it (despite the fallings on the icy road!), I am at presently arranging a trip for up to 40 ...

I am hoping to get back later in the season, if not next year, met a lot of new people and made good friends, the kids really enjoyed it (despite the fallings on the icy road!), I am at presently arranging a trip for up to 40 people for a long weekend next Feb or March (usually go to Scotland!), but am hoping to introduce them to Bulgaria next year, (NO KIDS!), that will be a change!
