Hi all, got back from Borovets on Thursday, had to fly home early due to injuries to the person I was with, but had a good few days out there anyway. Stayed at the Rila in a twin room, have no complaints at all, the room was basic but we wasn't expecting luxury anyway. The food was fine, yes a bit luke warm sometimes, but plenty of choice and I'm a fussy eater!!

The slopes were a bit icy due to lack of snow, but I do believe it snowed yesterday so that shouldn't be a problem now, but my advice is to go to the slopes at the top of the gondola the snow is much better up there. The prices weren't quite as cheap as I expected, the hotel bar was on about the same par as UK. If you can have lunch elsewhere to where you instructer takes you, then do so, they seem to take you to expensive places, personally I think they get a cut from it.
The ski school was my only complaint. We had Vasco as our instructer, he didn't speak very good English and wasn't very patient. We had a bit of a to do when he took us all up to the top of a mountain in one of the Cat machines but failed to tell us until we were on our way down that we all had to pay 30Lev each to the driver!! Some people in the group complained to the manager and he agreed to give everyone their money back, but it spoilt the mood of the lessons for the rest of the week.
Despite that I will be going back next year, but will probably give the studio rooms at the Rila a try, and will also go a bit later in the season.
Hope everyone in the ski group is ok. We flew home on Thrusday because Jon had cracked a rib, but has just got to rest it and should be ok soon, the Inghams rep was quite good with us sorting out our travel arrangements, the taxi driver was good with us as well avoiding all the big holes in the road so as not to cause Jon too much pain, once we got back to the UK, we realised how much more bumpy the roads are here believe it or not!
Andy - hope the knee doesn't take too long to heal. It's not a good reflection on the instructor when 2 people in he's group are seriously injured I certainly won't be asking for Vasco as my instructor next year!
If anyone has any questions about Borovets or Rila I'll try to answer as best I can.
thanks for a good report hydra.

Hi Hydra
we are off to rila on 19th feb will let you know how things are latter in the season and in the appartments, we are a party of 7, not been skiing for over 10 yrs so should be fun could call it a "mid life" if ya like, hope ya friend get well soon . I am hoping at the moment ligaments in left foot will be strong enough to ski as damaged them 2 weeks ago.
I am off to the rila on the 26th feb in the studio's heard they have been refurbished couple of years back, but more concerned about the snowfall than the rooms
It was the Rila school I was with and the instructors name was Vasco, they aren't all like that tho, I have heard that the female instructors are meant to be very good. I think it was just bad luck on our part!
