Got back yesterday from Borovets! Had a great time, the snow is perfect! (Loads and loads of the stuff!!) Everything was as it was last year despite posts to the contary on ths board! (Guess i am not that fussy?!) The Gondala was on shut for 1 day due to high winds, although it was about -25 the following day at the top and was pretty much un skiable due the large amounts of new snow, cold and bad visability!! The slopes were a bit busy at times, but queing for the lifts were not that bad at all! Anyone going out for the first time and are not sure what to expect- I am sure you will have a great time !!
Oh, and there was a snow boarder in our party and despite people saying they had restrictions placed on where they could snow board before we went, he could snow board where he wanted all week - no restrictions

We ate out every night and the best places were - The Blue- Katys Steakhouse- The Red Dragon and The Happy Duck-

Yes we came back yesterday too. Snow was unbelievable, white soft and fluffy. Only complaint was it was the wrong type of snow for making snowmen. But that was our only complaint. We stayed in the Samokov and must say the food has improved since our last visit. We also had snowboarders in our party and they went all over the mountain with us skiers as well. The Lev has dropped in value since last year and we were exchanging at around 2.50 lev's to the pound. However we did find that they were not welcoming the use of travellers cheques this year in some of the change bureau's. ( In hotel this was no problem ) Our advice would be to take cash and keep it safe in a safe deposit box. Cost around 3 lev per day. It was also a lot colder this year than in previous years ( are we getting old and our blood a bit thin - though this could be attributed to the high alcohol content in the hot choc and brandy we consumed ). But advice for first timers - take lots of thermals. Cost of ciggies for those smokers amongst u in the duty free at airport 14 Euros for 200. Around £11.20 and bottle of bicardi 1 Ltr 12 Euros around £9.50. Have fun we all did and cant wait to go back again.
