Back from the Perun, Bansko

Had a fantastic week! I've just been watching the DVD of my Ski-School class (60leva) and it's amazing how we progressed just over the first 3-4 days! By the end of the week we were going down the Bansko Road Run with few difficulties - even on the icy patches!

We didn't have one flake of natural snow all week, the skies were clear blue and it was BL**DY cold and icy!!! But don't fret! There's another big dump of snow expected in the next few days. Very Happy

I ate out every night so I can't tell you what the Perun dinner was like but I would recommend trying to eat at a new place each night! I especially liked the food and the service in some typical Bulgarian Restaurants in the village centre. If you go down the hill to the right hand side of the Lion Bar (Brit pub) and keep going until you reach the square, there's a few typical restaurants there.

Booze I only had a couple of drinks at the Happy End... but they were the most expensive of the week! 5 leva for a G+T. Bonde Bar was about 1.4 leva for a local G+T (local spirits, beers and wines are always much cheaper).

If you're in a Bulgarian Mexana ("Mehana") try the hot Rakia, I think it's a local Brandy but they add honey or jam to it - different places serve it differently, it's worth trying - honestly! Very Happy Very Happy Cool

I recommend walking boots - I relied on mine to get me to and from places safely, the ice was treacherous and difficult to see - especially at night. I'f you're staying in the Perun I'd also recommend taking a small torch, the road can get a little dark.

Please feel free to ask me anything you wish I'd gladly answer any questions I can.

P.S. Don't forget your swimsuit!

OK

Journey was awful but uneventful... 14 hours travelling is not my idea of fun - especially at the end of the holiday! Confused

How was your head/BG lesson this morning? Smile

Nice report, I am so glad you tried some mehanas. They seem so empty and are so nice. It seemed to me people don't dare go in.

I know! I can't inderstand it!!! Cheap alcohol and a cultural experience. I always had a waiter/waitress who (once they relaxed) had a sense of humour! You should have seen one guy's face when I asked for hot Rakia! Priceless!

Yes Dizzy,

it is nice to see if you ask fro Greina Rakia,( hot rakia ) but a great drink. The best is the homemade one.

Cheers.

re: Back from the Perun, Bansko

Absolutely

I tried it on my second night in Bansko - Crazy Lady introduced me to it - and I intoduced it to the rest of my family. It went down a storm! It's, perhaps, a little too easy to drink though. Very Happy
