I use Balkan as when things go wrong eg fog bound airport, they get priority for their customers. They are not perfect but all tour operators get bad reviews at some time and you know they will be the last company to cancel holidays to BG.

They get you there and back in one piece and are competitive- thats fine with me!

We used to use Balkan, but have gone with Thomson the last 2 years. Their organisation on the first day is better, the reps are more helpful and the late return flight means we can get an extra day's skiing in.
However, we're struggling to find anything for next year as all the major tour operatore (including Balkan and Thomson) seem to have pulled out of Plovdiv. Not sure we can face the long transfer from Sofia ...

Thats sad really re the transfer time Sad I would have used other tour comps had they been available) but stuck with Balkan if we go back to Bulgaria- Dont know why someone else doesnt operate from Newcastle?

It seems that the options to get to Bulgaria are getting increasingly limited. Not sure now what we will do next year. Maybe it's time to move onto somewhere else ...

We usually flew from Belfast into Plovdiv to go to Borovets and had a long transfer but this year we flew into Sofia and only had a one hour transfer. It was great.

Had an E Mail back from Balkan head office.
The ham or cheese roll this year was complimentary- Next season they are offering HOT FOOD IN LINE WITH OTHER AIRLINES- thats what you can choose to purchase for £7 each way.
As yet- there are no definate menus set, but "it will not be like the old meals- and hot"
Cant wait till December now to see whats on offer when the first posters of next season write in! Very Happy

I hate to say this - and hope to be proved wrong - but I bet whatever it is won't be great nor worth £7. People may even find themselves wishing for the return of the ham or cheese roll. Ha ha!!

Razz

PS.

Well done Ian W for pursuing this with Balkan - and am amazed they answered swiftly and with a sensible reply!

As you say though - just need the first lot of guinea pigs out there next season before we know the real truth. Lol.
